Why won't you do it by yourself? It's quite easy to convert and copy your VHS tape to DVD.
You could convert VHS to DVD with a DVD recorder and here are sometyhing what you need: DVD Recorder, VHS player and your VHS cassette and RCA or S-Video cable
If you think the way mentioned above is a bit complicated, then you may want to try this way via some software tools to do this:
Things to be prepared: An analog converter device, PC with a DVD drive, DVD burning software (there are many. here I would mention Leawo DVD Creator).

Can i record old vhs movies to dvd or are they copyrights to them? Like Disney movies from vhs to dvd? Thank you

Old VHS tapes may have a copy protection in the video that will cause the video to go dark then to go bright making the copy no good. There are devices available that will remove this copy protection. The copy protection is called macro vision I believe.

Why won't the Sony controls let me click onto finalize using a Sony TV w/recoder to transfer VHS to DVD?

Is the VHS tape you are trying to record a commercial VHS tape (movie)? If so, it may have copy protection on it. The recorder is probably programmed to prevent you from making and using DVDs of commercial copy-protected VHS tapes.

I have Magnavox DVD player/vcr DV225MG9, does it record from vhs onto dvds? And if not, what do I need to get so that I can copy all of these old vhs movies to dvds?

it won't record dvd's its only a dvd player. only the vcr records
if the vhs movies your trying to record are movies like star wars and stuff like that it's copy protected and no worth the trouble. if it's home movies or something you recorded from tv they might work. if you get a dvd recorder/vhs player.

I am trying to record from vhs to dvd and I start the movie on vhs, push record on the dvd and then the tv screen goes black so I am getting recordings of black. You can see that something has been burned...

If you are trying to record a store bought vhs movie to dvd, there is a copy guard that is imprinted on the tape making it impossible to transfer the movie to disc effectively, on top that there probably a built in copy guard restriction in the machine making it even more difficult.

I would like to know if it is possible to copy two vhs movies onto one dvd disk.

Yes, this should be possible, as long as the VHS movies are not copyright protected. Just make sure that the recording mode on the dvd is set to allow enough time for both movies. Just remember: the more you record onto a single disc, the quality of the dubbing (recording of VHS to DVD) is decreased.

DVD recorded discs (from VHS) do not play on other dvd players

I called the manufacturer. They admitted to improper instructions. They provided me a fix to their copying protocol and it worked. Also, they game me instructions on how to fix already copied tapes. It works well and I would have to say I was impressed with their customer/technical service.

I have been told that you make a vcr - dvd machine that will convert vhs videos to dvd , if this is true pls advise model number and approximate price

There are DVD/VHS combo units that allow you to record VHS tapes onto DVDs. The price of these units range from about $150 up to $300+ depending on the quality of the brand you want. I have seen them on sale for less than $150, but you would need to look around for the sales. There is a problem with these units, however. Most newer VHS movies (and DVDs) are encoded for copyright protection and cannot be copied - unless you want to purchase a Descrambler. A Descrambler allows you to bypass the copyright codes and are to be used soley for the purpose of copying purchased movies. There are strict copyright laws as you have seen during the intro of VHS/DVD movies. If you intend to use the unit for copying things like TV shows, movies on cable, or home movies, then this would be a worthwhile purchase. I have just a standard Toshiba DVD burner and believe me, it gets a lot of use, mostly for TV shows on prime time TV. I work second shift and would miss out if I didn't have it. I can guarantee that you will get your moneys worth out of it. You can find them pretty much anywhere that sells electronics. As far as the Descrambler, I'm not sure they are carried in your local department store. The only ones that I have seen have been in magazine advertisements and once on The Home Shopping Network (HSN) and the price on there was around $100 - this was about 2 years ago. I hope that I answered your questions. Please take a few seconds to rate how helpful this post was for you. Thanks and good luck. billyho1977@FixYa
