I have a compaq laptop that was made in 2010. it is vga, not hdmi accessible. i want to plug my laptop into my hdtv, but it wont work. what could be wrong? maybe its to small of a video card to support the tv? all i know is it works when i plug it into my monitor, but doesnt work when plugged into my tv.
Why won't my compaq computer plug into a tv?
here is a better answer.!
no laptop or TV stated of 1000s models made.
the TV has no VGA jack,. only HDMI (it's modern)
the PC has no HDMI jack its old sure. 8 years old
all normal for your aged equipment.! normal !
the answer is here.
so buy any VGA to HDMI converter
go to best buy and ask.
ive no idea where on earth you live, no location stated.
like NY or TX or UK or Russia, federation.
stores vary by LOCATION.
ill pretend USA
and 500 miles from, any good store.
the adapter come in 2 ways, one way no good for you.
so here is good way.
the first job is how far is TV,. after all i cant guess the distance from your PC to your TV and this matters big time if far.
lets say 6 feet, coin toss 4?
I like this guys , way of selling his adapter.
it shows a RED X for the wrong way. very very nice.
and means for your usage PC to TV, (the other way is possible too)

to use it you need 2 cables.
3.5mm double male cable , at desiredd length
and a VGA cable double male again, at your desiredd length.
Desiredd is bad word here so must spell it wrong. silly bs that.
once connected say to TV jack HDMI1, to 4, you picked 1.
the HP use keys Fn+F4 to set screen to external VGA jack
the in your unstated TV< (say LG) click inputs
the on your TV screen (smart) click HDMI 1.
bingo PC connects to TV and works.
here is one that only needs a long HDMI cable

there 2 choices, there are many made by many companies
the PC should not get upset with it connected.
if it does force the resolution that works best on PC to make the TV look better,
lacking what equipment you really own is and impossible guess on my part.
Apples and oranges
you have an orange and expect an apple to work
monitors are not tv sets is what I am saying
You probably have to "tell" the TV to see the monitor. In other words, there might be a VCR/DVD/VGA(computer) setting/switch on the TV menu. The TV might not find the computer automatically like a monitor does. Good luck.

it could be not enough video memory and it take a second to process data. with streaming video it uses UDP protocol. UDP uses a simple transmission model without implicit hand-shaking dialogues for guaranteeing reliability, ordering, or data integrity. Thus, UDP provides an unreliable service and datagrams may arrive out of order, appear duplicated, or go missing without notice. UDP assumes that error checking and correction is either not necessary or performed in the application, avoiding the overhead of such processing at the network interface level. Time-sensitive applications often use UDP because dropping packets is preferable to using delayed packets. from WIKI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Datagram_Protocol
this is probably why sometimes you just miss packets of data. and it displays black or nothing
