SOURCE: My Sony PlaySatation2 console wont read any games on PS2 discs.

9 out of 10 times when the fat ps2 cant/wont read disk its the cd tray needs to be adjusted.

I would suggest opening up the ps2 and cleaning the console with Qtips and rubing alcohol. if the laser will wont read. go to youtube.com type in fix my ps2 laser. you will watch a video on how to adjust your cd tray.

The reason for this issue is if the laser is to close or to far from the cd the laser cant read the cd.

the worse problem u can come across is the laser 100% failed. which is rare but you can buy a new/used working laser on ebay.com or google it. the laser will have the model on it you want to make sure you get the correct model. otherwise it wont work.

How to fix rsod on pcsx2 0.9.7

The infamous Red Screen of Desk -- A.K.A. Insert a Format Disc screen.

This screen is NOT asking for a disc to FORMAT the PS2. What it IS asking for is a PS2 or Playstation format [or a better word -- PS2 or Playstation TYPE disc. A disk with Playstation 1 or Playstation 2 type software on it -- in other words, a ps1 or ps2 game]. It's basically asking for a CD or DVD with software that the playstation can play. This red screen occurs when you insert an XBOX game or a burned/copied PS2 or PS1 game. What the PS2 is stating is that is cannot play this format [or type of] disc. It's asking you to insert a format [or type of] disc that it can recognize and use.

The most common reason for this screen appearing, if your PS2 does NOT have a mod chip, is a dirty lens. Try cleaning your lens and this should go away. What happens is that the lens becomes dirty and does not recognize the disc you inserted as being a PS2 or PS1 format [or type of] disc. So it's asking you to insert one. If your PS2 does have a mod chip installed, it could be a problem with the chip or the disc you burned. We don't install or sell mod chips, so we can't help you with that one.

My son's ps2 asks for a ps2 format disk and I'd like to know if there's a site where I can download it for free

Hi there, what your PS2 is actually asking for is a PS2 disc of the correct format, not a disc to format your PS2. Usual causes of this are :

1. Laser faulty or dirty discs.
2. Trying to play a copied game on an unmodified console.
3. Trying to play a copied game on a modified console where the copied game has been burnt to the incorrect disc type
4. Trying to play a disc from a different region, i.e a disc from the US will not play on a UK console.

Hope this helps

Where can we get the a download to format a disc

Your PS2 doesn't need to format a disc. It's asking for a disc with Playstation 2 type software on it. In other words, it's looking for a PS2 game.

If you're putting a PS2 game in there and it's asking for one -- your laser is going out. It thinks the disc you put in is not a disc of PS2 type (PS2 format). You can find a quick tutorial on confirming this is the problem, and the laser (and repair) at the following page:

My ps2 screen says 'insert a playstation or a ps2 format disc

t's not asking for a specific disc, it's asking for a properly formatted PlayStation disc.

This message could mean that any one of several things has happened:
* You are trying to play a Japanese disc on a US PS2, or vice versa
* You are trying to play a game that has been copied onto a CD-R/DVD-R
* Your disc is scratched/dirty/otherwise unreadable
* Your disc isn't a format that the PS2 recognises (i.e. CD, DVD, PS CD-ROM, PS2 CD-ROM, PS2 DVD-ROM, etc)
* Your PS2 is broken

Ps2 wont read discs and asks for format disc

I can guess that the games you are trying to play have a Blue underneath and not silver. This was a big problem with my sons disks too using the older version of the ps2. We managed to mess about with some of the settings and changed the rgb setting to the other option (can't remember what that was now...sorry) and got some of them to work, but not for long. When the new games come out now they expect you to have the slimline ps2 and unfortunalty won't work on the older model. So to fix this problem I just bought a new one.

Asking please insert format disc when trying to play a new game

The game you have is not being recognized by your ps2, you need to make sure that your ps2 is modifed to be able to play ALL ps2 games through out the world. Or if your ps2 is modified already then its a bad disc copy.
