Camera is no longer uploading photos to the computer

I have a Canon PowerShot A85 digital camera.  Recently when I have tried connecting the camera to my computer (HP pavilion 751n) using the connector cable I have been using for as long as I've had the camera, I get an error message that reads "USB Device Not Recognized."  Does this mean that my cord is malfunctioning or the camera itself?  Are the cords still available?  If it is the camera, is there any other way to upload my photos from the cartridge?  Any advice you may have will be appreciated.  My address is [email protected].

Thank you!

I had this same problem and it is a problem with the actual camera where the usb cord plugs in. Luckily there is a cheap solution - you can go to radio shack and get a memory card reader for about $15 (or some newer advanced all-in one printers and computers already come with them) and take the memory card out and insert it into the reader. You can transfer the pics from the reader to your computer. All you need for the reader is an available USB port. It is very simple and I have found it to be a better way since it doesn't eat up batteries either.

PowerShot A85 Digital Camera: when I connect my camera (canon powershot a85) to ...

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

Unable to download pictures

In the short term you can take the memory card out and use a card reader - at least that will let you see the pictures.

CANON A85 CAMERA COMPACT FLASH CARD ERROR

Your problem is a bit unclear. Are you saying that your card works fine on the camera but your computer doesn't recognize it? Then obviously the problem is with the computer, not with the camera. If what I said is the problem, please specify which OS you are using on your computer. Please get back with the clarification and I will surely help you.

Blank LCD works but wont display

I have a Canon powershot A85 camera, and it works fine, but I get no picture in the LCD screen. It does take pictures and I can look at the pictures after I have taken them. I don't know if you live in Australia, if you do ring Canon on 131383. A lot of Canon camera's and also a lot of other digital camera's all have a problem with the CCD Chip. My brother has a Canon A75, he has had is for many years, and they fixed it free of charge, because it is a problem the camera has, so not something we done. Look on the internet and you will find a lot of info on it, also that it will be fixed free of charge. I also found the same information on a lot of other digital camera's, so ring Canon and find out, I hope this helps you. Kind Regards Marion
