Mold in the machine. how do I clean and disinfect it?

The best way to get rid of the mold is to use bleach water. You need to clean and scrub it out, making sure the bleach gets in every cranny. Lastly, really (and I mean really) rinse it out. I would suggest washing it out several times to be careful.

My water is black. is it now unsafe to use?

The question is why is it black? Is it mold or mildew? Has the unit every been cleaned and flushed regularly? If you answered NO, to the last question, that may be the problem. You can flush the system by using a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water. After doing that, wash the interior of the water container with soap and water. Then run another flush cycle of Bottled Distilled Water. In the future, if this was the problem, use bottled distilled water only for humidifying purposes.

If the above was not the problem, there may possibly been some type of oil leak from the motor or one of the rubber gaskets is breaking down and polluting the water. Until you solve the problem, discontinue using the unit.

Why is the water turning black in my humidifier?

If it doesn't have a filter(mold ). Then I seem To remember it might be a mineral deposit Overload on the heating coils, especially If you have to use baking soda to make Steam. Try soaking it overnight with vinegar And water. If you can scrub it, do so. Then Rinse well

Is mold ever a problem with this unit

As far as I'm concerned mold is always a potential problem with any humidifier. You can buy a cleaning solution at most hvac supply outlets that will keep this to a minimum and also smells good. If you want to do it for less money and don't mind the smell of chlorine then use 3-4 ounces monthly to control mold and bacteria growth. Thank you.

Mold is developing in drainage tubing - how do I prevent?

Keeping the humidity level in your home below 50% will greatly decrease mold growth. You can pour some bleach in the drainage tubing to clean it out and do it every three months to keep it clean

Why does so much scum and mold develop in the water tray and on the filter ?

Mold and algea form in the tray and filter of drum style humidifiers because humidifiers are a warm damp place, perfect breeding grounds! I suggest updating to a drain through style humdifier, as it does not allow water to sit stagnent in a tray. Hope this helps

I have discovered mold growing inside the chamber that mist emits from. how do i thoroughly clean it. how often should i clean it?

The best thing around your house is bleach, it kills mold dead. Mold needs moisture, food, air so removing any one of those will kill it. I would try cleaning with soap and water with a little bleach every two weeks and see how it goes, they increase or decrease the time between cleanings as determined necessary. Remmeber bleach stains anything it comes in contact so be careful with it.
Good Luck,
