Ge7408 The time screen is Very dim. I can barely read it when the room is lit, but the screen is blank when the room is dark.

Try going into power option settings and taking the brightness to the max there. Start, control panel, power options, then you should see a setting for battery and for plugin. Hope this helps.

has it been hit or dropped off a hight?
there can be a problem with the led lights which lit the lcd.
try consulting a local shop or apple store

You need to give a more detailed description of the problem.
The LG 47LH90 is an LED backlit TV with 'local dimming' technology. This means that there are lots of white LEDs behind the screen and these can be controlled in groups to allow localised areas of the screen to be dimmed to produce better contrast between light and dark. It is very likely that when the room is dark, this local dimming is more noticeable. The actual individual LEDs cannot be controlled and so the area that is dimmed will generally be greater than the area that is required to be dark 'blooming effect'. In addition, LED backlit displays only maintain their contrast through a tight viewing angle. If you sit too farto the right or left, then light from non-dimmed LEDs will leak through and the screen will look lighter.
In short, there may not be any fault with your TV.

The Tv sounds like it has a fault. Firstly, switch tv on in a dark room and look through the back cover grills at the tube neck. If it is lit up a dim orange, the heater is ok, and the problem is either a loss of voltage to the tubes first anode (A1) or a field collapse problem ( a line across a black screen which is blanked out by the tv protection circuitry) or...it could be a black level clamping fault on the video driver chip or faulty video driver chip.

Well, first you will have to check your options, if you can read it enough to get in there.  You may have the backlight turned off.  If the backlight is not turned off, then you probably have a bad backlight and will have to take it to your provider to get it fixed.  Replacing a screen/backlight is not something I would attempt to do unless you are certain you know exactly what you are doing as you can render the phone completely useless.  

I have 2 of these I got at a yard sale and both had the dim screen
problem.I took 1 apart and everything looked fine.Put it back
together and put it back on the cradle and still did not work TILL I
squeezed down on the connection to the cradle and the radio.It lit up fine.Same with the other one.Its the bottom connection in the
radio that is worn from taking it in and out of the cradle all the time.
My XM radio had the same problem but it was the power cord that
wore out from taking the radio out every night and it powered up eratically like it was shorting out.Try squeezing it down on the
cradle and see what happens.

if the picture is REALLY dark, like you can just barely see it in a lit room, then the backlight might not be lit. LCD TVshave backlight that shines through the LCD screen which allows you to see the picture.

If it's not the backlight then it would be the brightness/contrast settings that need to be adjusted. If the picture used to be normal and all of a sudden went dark, verify the backlight. Normally you can look through the slots on the top of the set and determine if the backlight is on. If you can see a bright light through any of the slots, the backlight is probably OK... go after the brightness/contrast settings.

You could have a bad "inverter" or flourescent backlight tube, or a problem in your power supply.The only way to isolate the problem is to check each component in sequence.If your hard disk and DVD / CD drive are still working when your screen goes dark, then I'd say it's the "inverter". You'll have to take it to a repair shop.

To adjust the display brightness -

The display dims automatically to medium or low brightness, as appropriate for low light room conditions. You can adjust the brightness setting of the display for both strong light and lowest light environments, but not for the medium light setting. Turn the system off before setting brightness levels.

• In a strongly lit room, hold down CD Mode and press Volume up or down to adjust the setting between 5 and 9 (it is preset to 8).
• In a barely lit room, hold down CD Mode and press Volume up or down to adjust the setting between 1 and 5 (it is preset to 2).
• If you do not want the system to dim automatically, set both levels to 5.
