Connect laptop to TVs

I connected my laptop to my samsung hdtv and the PC option from source is in active. The only options available are AV1, AV2 and S-video 1 only. The rest of them are inactive. I went to set-up and tried to select PC, HDMI etc........they are all inactive. How do I make these connections active and watch movies from my laptop?

You have to set your laptop to send a signal to the television. there is a function option there that you need to press on the keyboard depending on what laptop model you have. for others its fn+f8. you just have to set your tv to pc and set your pc to send the signal.

I can't get the tv to program the cable connection to watch cable

use a scart lead to connect your cable tv box. then on your tv remote press the "source" button or press the "AV" button, you mainly have the options to choose AV1 and AV2 (AV2 is only available if your tv has 2 scart sockets) make sure the box is on and select any AV channel, you should now have cable tv.

Where can i buy a new remote mine got water damaged

It depends on the TV (make/model). Do you have an Input or Source button on the TV? Then you can use that button to change your input. A few models will offer an alternative option to change the source from the menu and have a Menu button on the TV. (Some TVs only let you change the source from the remote.)

Some remotes are available from the manufacturer's parts store (Sony, for example). remotes.com has the exact original or a replacement remote for many brands. For other TVs, a universal remote may work. Look for a higher end universal remote with a Source or Input button. Then test all of the codes for your TV brand. (Some codes may only enable parts of the remote functions; make sure you find a code that lets this button work.) The remotes that can be programmed with a USB connection to a computer are the easiest to set up for this situation.

Please add a comment with the specific make and model of your TV; I'll try to find a source for an exact replacement remote.

(some really old TVs let you swap from AV1 to AV2 to channels by going up or down through all channels to reach a point where you could swap the inputs.)

I have just got a cctv camera it only shows up on av2 however i can't record that channel i can only record av1, its driving me crazy!!!

Some VCRs have the ability to switch the output/input of AV2 so you can record it. Look for the AV1 or AV2 on the menu of the VCR for recording options.
Otherwise get one of these Scart boxes which you can find on Amazon. The buttons allow you to record and switch sources. They are not expensive.

Can i hookup theis computer to my tv using a hdmi cable?

Yes, your notebook comes with an HDMI port. You will need an HDMI cable to connect to the TV (usually LCD TVs come with an HDMI port). After the connection has been made, change the source in the TV by clicking the "Source" button on the remote. It usually changes in the following sequence - AV1, AV2, HDMI.

No plug ins work other than what is in jack 1 why?

Try using the "source" or "input" button on your tv or remote control. That will cycle through any ports that are being used (hdmi, component, rca, etc)
Hope this helps!

If you are connecting your DVD and VCR to the TV using Scart leads, simply go into TV input option on your tv remote and switch to AV1 or AV2. i.e AV1 for VCR or AV2 for DVD player.

The Red, White & Yellow connectors are your composite inputs usually classed as AV3 or component. The AV1 input is a Scart connection, if you have a scart cable, connect this as your AV source & the TV will switch from AV to component.
