Ps3 wont recognise controller.

Ps3 had ylod that has since been fixed. my problem now is when i turn the ps3 on it asks for the hard drive to be formatted, witch would usually just be a case of holding down the ps button on the control pad and hitting x. but thats my problem the ps3 wont recognise the controller its not lightiong up the wifi icon at the bottom of the unit. i tried the wifi board from this system in another and it worked fine so i think it must be the motherboard but im unsure. any ideas?

SOURCE: PS3 controller Problem

I just fixed mine. The controller itself needs to be reset. There is a reset button on the back of the controller, above the top right hand corner of the square with all on the information and barcode. Press it with a sharp tipped object while still connected to the PS3 via USB cable. Then press the PS button and you should be back on wirelessly.

SOURCE: My controller will not connect on my ps3.

Sounds like the controller knows it belongs to the other PS3. It has already "paired" with one console, so that's why you're having a hard time trying to get it to pair with console #2, comprende?
Make sure console #1 is a "hard off", like switched in the back. Now flip your controller over & put a pencil or pen tip in the reset hole. ( Just to the right of the center screw hole.) NOW connect said controller with the USB to console #2. Hold the PS button for two seconds. All 4 lights will flash 5 times, then the 1 light should stay on, Boo-ya! You're PAIRED!

How do i get the access code for epix.hd for ps3 console

I am having issues with mine same as most above.
I would like to try and reformat/restore settings but it freezes before i can even get the settings page.
Some times the tv doesn't even recognise that there is anything plugged in.
When i leave it for a while it loads up normally but then freezes.
with colourful pixels all over the screen.
Taken it apart, cleaned it still nothing.
i have fixed YLOD on it twice would this have caused something else to break?
it has worked since the last YLOD fix but its b*g*rd up now.
Any one got any solutions as to how to reformat hard drive if you cant turn the ps3 on?

My ps3 turns on and the light goes green then yellow then flashes red till i turn it off...what can i do?

what you got is what is know as yellow lite of death --YLOD

this is the site i got the info from...
http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-General/Unofficial-Yellow-Light-of-Death-YLOD-Informative-Still-Thread-R/m-p/40726489

and you are not the only one to experience this. more and more ps3 owners are getting hit with this problem. your best bet will be to send it off to sony if its under warrenty for they'll fix it for free. but be cautious of this for they may even replace your system and you may not get your original system back. if its not under warrenty you'll get hit with an $150 charge. you can check youtube for videos on how to open up/fix your ps3. look for videos "YLOD FIXES" i get people telling me that their system only works for few days to few month so i have to assume that the fix is not a permanent. last i checked i think sony only cover your system for 30 days if they fix it. there are also guides you can buy.

background

The YLOD is a major hardware failure for the PlayStation 3. The specific cause is somewhat known, but Sony has not commented about this failure whatsoever. Some theories for the cause include:

overheating (accelerated by dust build-up), blu-ray drive failure, bad power supply, and/or a hard drive critical error.

**UPDATE**

According to an eBay store that repairs YLOD PS3's, the hardware failure is caused by either/or of two things:

1. Hardware malfunction on the motherboard due to heating/cooling (solder physically cracking/breaking) which can be fixed by "reflowing", which is a fancy way of using a machine that has a super controlled (+ or - .5 degrees) hot air nozzle to re-melt the solder on the base of the defective chip to re-attach it.

2. The power supply has the failure in one of its capacitors or diodes. This can also be fixed by "reflowing" but it is harder to diagnose due to the need to chase down which one it is.

**According to this eBay store, this scenario is a much more difficult way to repair PS3's with the YLOD. They state they can only repair 8 out of 10 PS3's with the YLOD**

You know you have received the YLOD when the following occurs:

* You power on the console.
* The console starts up normally for about 2-3 seconds,
* The console beeps 3 times while flashing a faint yellow light,
* The console continues to flash a red light

Playstation 3 (PS3) Console: My husbands PS3 is frozen. It will not turn on at ...

if its under warranty send it off to sony and let them fix it. i do believe sony covers it for 1 yr from date of purchase. if its not under warranty it'll cost you $150 to have sony fix it. if you do send it off you may or may not get your original system. you could try local repair shop for they will be a bit cheaper. but if you wanna give it a shot you can try...

here it goes...
now you say it will not turn on at all. as funny as this sounds there is two type of "not turning on" one is where you go to turn it on and it beeps and the lights change colors. It end with 3 beeping noise with the red light blinking. the other is where you go to turn it on and its dead. no lights no sound nothing.

for the first "wont come on" it is known as YLOD also know as yellow light of death. you can check youtube and search for YLOD fixes or ps3 reflow to get some good video of people fixing their ps3. just know that it require you to strip down your ps3 to its motherboard. this method is not a guaranteed fix. i've heard the fixes last anywhere from 2 days to few months. so you have a lot of people selling off their fixed YLOD on ebay. if you send it off to sony i think they only cover for 30 days.

as for the second "not coming on" it could be that the power supply is damaged. this is one of the most common problem. its fairly easy to replace. the hardest thing is remembering where all the screws go when you open up your ps3. if you have access to another ps3 you could try swapping out the power supply along with the power cords and such. if that didn't work you may have more than 1 problem on *********** board which could have been linked with the YLOD problem. you could try fixing that like the videos on youtube.

Old ps3 wont turn on, want to retrieve game saves for new ps3

You have the yellow light of death (YLOD). You won't be able to turn on your old ps3 until you get it repaired. OR you CAN put your old hard drive in the new system then do the backup option from the system menu. It will have you upload the data to an external usb drive or Ipod or flash memory drive. Then put your new hard drive back in and do the system recovery option. Hope that helps.

PS3 does not read any discs after replacing the lens

I uh, recommend doing nothing by yourself. Especially repairing the YLOD (did you use a hair dryer?)

Wiredextreme.com can fix board and disc reader issues.

Or go here and ask them what they think:

My playstation wont turn on the red light shows and then i turn it on the light goes green and then a few seconds later goes back to red and shuts down again whats the problem?

Last person I knew that had this problem, I fixed it. Although he did lose all his save games... The OS software was corrupt. Here's what I did to fix it:
1. Remove the hard drive and plug it into a computer that has a SATA connector on it's motherboard.
2. Format the hard drive, any format will do.
3. Download the latest update from Sony and save it to PS3\UPDATE folder on a flash drive.
4. Reinstall the hard drive into your PS3 and allow it to reformat it. Turn off system after format is complete.
5. Insert flash drive into USB port on PS3. Proceed with update.
6. Restart system after update is complete, and enjoy all over again! =)

I'm sure if you really wanted your save games, there has to be an emulator out there somewhere, but then I don't know how you'd get it back on your hard drive after all is fixed... Honestly, lost save games is better than no PS3 at all...Hope this helps you and many others that had this same problem! =)

PS3 has blinking red power light and nothing else

switch it off from the back,, hold down the eject button, and turn it on from the back,, it should spit the cd out,,

The ps3 needs to be sent back to be fixed it is YLOD..<--not good
it will take at least 4-6 weeks before you get your Console back. And also, if your warranty is expired, you have to pay a big fat $150,- to get the job done!

or go to youtube and look for a PS3 Ylod fix,,
