Craftsman 42 inch riding lawn mower is not cutting evenly

My craftsman lawn mower is not cutting evenly side to side. I did all the adjustments that were described in the owners manual and it still is uneven. Could it be a bad belt or something else in the housing causing the mower to cut unevenly. also I am using mulching blades and does that make a difference?

The first thing to check is your blades. If one is bent, it will never cut even. It happens a lot hitting roots, antbeds, etc. Mulching blades will bend easier than a straight blade. It's best to take them off and lay one on top of the other to see if they're bent.

Sounds like you have check all the basic things when trying to solve an uneven cutting problem, my suggestion after you have determined that the blades are not bent to remove the mower deck and turn it upside down rotate the blades carfully by hand and watch the relationship between the two blades as they pass each other in the center. you could have a bent mower deck were the spindles mount. no offense but craftsman mowers are notorious for this one good hit and the shock is transfered to the mower deck and it bends it were the spindles mount. it is accually a fairly easy fix if you just look at were it is bent and remove spindle and pound deck back into shape. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: uneven grass cutting

If the deck has not been altered and the blades are not altered or bent, maybe you have a soft rear wheel. stephen.

My deck is way too low. How do I adjust it?

Your mower should have a lever on it that you move to raise or lower your deck. The lever will normally have the slots that it locks into numbered like the trans gears if yours is not automatic.

Cuts lawn uneven, one side shorter than other

Was it cutting uneven before you changed blades? If so, you may not have gotten the blade on the shaft correctly. There is an adjustment in the center of the deck hanger on each side. You can turn the 9/16 nut up or down on each side to level it out.
