Using the printer as a fax only. Received a fax but when I sent a test fax either from the feeder or from the scan bed it starts dialing the number and shuts down with a notice of power failure. Turn off and then turn on your printer it says. Did this many times ..still no send fax

SOURCE: hp officejet 7410 fax failure

Had the same problem as everyone else here - would copy fine but faxing or scanning resulted in the "whizzzzzz" sound (with or without the sheet feeder) and a mandatory reboot.
I followed the suggestion of moving the scanner head to a different part of the drive belt and it works fine now (at least until that part of the belt wears down!). Here was the procedure - it took about 10 minutes.

  1. Remove all T8 screws from the top of the scanner bed - there are two hidden on the left side under the removable flap and two more hidden behind the front control panel cover, which just snaps off.
  2. There is a bundle of wires that prevents the entire top from lifting completely off, so lift it high enough to clear the plastic parts, then rotate it 180 degrees around and set it on something to support it.
  3. Lift the scanner head until it comes off the guide rod and disengages from the drive belt.
  4. Move the scanner head to the other end of the bed and reingage it onto the belt and guide rod - this is a little tricky to get the belt to pop back into the scanner head, but I got it to go by holding the belt firmly on either side of the head and squeezing both together.
  5. Replace top and all screws, pop control panel cover back into place.
  6. Rejoice in saving yourself lots of $$ and preventing more junk from entering the landfill!

You can try resetting the printer.
Step 1. Unplug the power cord at the back of the printer while the printer is still on
Step 2. Press and hold the # and 6 button on the printer while the power cord is disconnected. And keep holdig the two buttons until you plug in the power back again.
Note : do not release the # and 6 when you plug the power cord back in. keep holding the two buttons until the printer would turn on then turn off or the printer would say anything about "reset"
Step 3. Try sending a fax after the successful reset of the printer

Wont send message. Error no 442

This error indicates that the receiving machine (receiver) cannot receive the fax you just sent. The reasons might be unexpected shutdown of the machine (Receiver's machine) just before it completely received [or partially printed] the file you had sent or power failure during the process.
Another reason is, when we send color fax from Hp machine to another Machine (non-hp), this happens due to incompatibility issue.
Solutions are;
1. Restart both the machine after deleting the recently sent/received fax.
2. Send black and white only, not color.
3. Try again after the phone line seems not much busy which means when there's better transmission capability.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

We keep getting an error code 344* when we are trying to transmit a fax. What can we do to fix this?

Error 344 means :-

The remote machine has failed to respond to a fax command from the product because the connection is interrupted.
The remote user has pressed the Stop button while the remote machine was receiving.
Under rare conditions, incompatibility between the two machines can cause the remote machine to simply abandon the call.

Solutions :-
  1. Attempt to send the fax again when telephone-line conditions have improved.
  2. If the fax session was using error correction, disable ECM.
To disable ECM Press :-
  1. Press Setup .
  2. Press the Down arrow (c00326489.gif ) repeatedly until Advanced Fax Setup displays.
  3. Press OK .
  4. Press the Down arrow (c00326489.gif ) until Error Correction Mode displays.
  5. Press OK .
  6. Press the Right arrow (> ) until either OFF or ON displays.
  7. Press OK .
  8. Send another fax to verify that the ECM is enabled or disabled.
Check the Phone Cable connected with the printer.
Make sure the Cable should be connected to line 1 port at the back of the printer and it should be going directly from the printer to the wall jack and not to the Serj protector.

Try to print a fax test page.
  1. On the control panel of the product, press the Setup button (c01361401.gif ).
  2. Press the Right Arrow button (c01185072.jpg ) to select Tools , and then press OK .
  3. Press the Right Arrow button (c01185072.jpg ) to select Run Fax Test , and then press OK . The product displays the test results on the control panel display and prints the Fax Test Report.
Now Do this :-
  1. Send a one page black and white text fax to 1-888-hpfaxme (1-888-473-2963).
  2. When your fax is received by the HP Test Fax Service, we will generate a return fax to you within five minutes confirming that we received your fax. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax with your fax machine.
If you do not receive a return fax within 5-7 minutes, there may be a problem with the setup of your fax machine. Consult the user manual that came with the product for proper setup and configuration. Try the above steps and let me know if it works for you.

How can i generate incoming call report ?

To print a report:
  1. Press the [Menu] button on the Control Panel, until Reports is displayed on the top line of the Display Screen. The Phone Book menu item will be displayed on the bottom line.

    wcpe16-menu-but.jpg

  2. Press the right or left arrow button to scroll until the report or list you want to print is displayed on the bottom line.
    • Phone Book: Phonebook list
    • Sent Report: Sent fax report
    • RCV Report: Received fax report
    • System Data: System data list
    • Scheduled Jobs: Scheduled job information
    • MSG Confirm: Message confirmation
    • Junk Fax List: Junk fax number list
  3. Press [Enter] to print the selected information.
Your machine can print reports containing useful information. The following reports are available:
  • Phonebook List: This list shows all of the numbers currently stored in the machine's memory as Speed Dial and Group Dial numbers. You can print this phonebook list using the [Phonebook] button.
  • Sent Fax Repor: This report shows information of the faxes you recently sent.
  • Received Fax Report: This report shows information of the faxes you recently received.
  • System Data List: This list shows the status of the user-selectable options. You may print this list to confirm your changes after changing any settings.
  • Scheduled Job Information: This list shows the document currently stored for Delayed faxes or Toll Save faxes. The list shows the starting time and type of operation.
  • Message Confirmation: This report shows the fax number, the number of pages, the elapsed time of the job, the communication mode, and the communication results. You can set up your machine to automatically print the message confirmation report after each fax job.
  • Junk Fax Number List: This list shows up to 10 fax numbers specified as the junk fax numbers by using the Junk Fax Setup menu. When the Junk Fax Barrier feature is turned on, incoming faxes from those numbers will be blocked. This feature recognizes the last 6 digits of the fax number set as a remote fax machine’s ID.
  • Multi-Communication Report: This report is printed automatically after sending documents from more than one location.
  • Power Failure Report: This report is printed out automatically when power is restored after a power failure, if any data loss occurs due to the power failure.

NOTE: The lists you have set to automatically print out will not print out when there is no paper loaded or a paper jam has occurred.

Lexmark 7350 all in one

Before you begin

To pinpoint the cause of the issue, please record answers to the following questions:

Can a fax be sent or received?
Can a fax be sent, but not received?
Has the fax function ever worked in the past?

Any error messages may also help to narrow down the cause of the issues.

Print out the following:

- a settings list to view the current fax settings
- a receive log if there are issues receiving faxes
- a send log if there are issues sending faxes
- an activity log if faxes cannot be sent or received.
Initial checks
If the fax option has worked in the past and does not do so now, check that the same connection is being used and that it still works.
Check to see if any configuration settings have been changed that could have affected the fax settings.

Faxes cannot be sent/received:
If you are using a digital line, you need an analog card, an ISDN adapter, or an ADSL filter in order to send faxes.
If a PBX is being used, an ISDN Adapter/ADSL filter will not be used as these are supplied within the system. (A PBX is normally used within a company to share a small number of public lines among a large number of private ones to save on cost.) For instructions on configuring the X6100 Series machine with a PBX, see How and When to Use the PBX Option.
Check the phone line (without the printer):
Test the line by connecting a phone directly into the phone port.
Check for a dialing tone.
If you cannot hear a dialing tone, try another phone cable. Once you can hear a dialing tone, you know that the phone port is live and working.
Make sure the RJ11 cable is not damaged.
Check that the printer is accessing the dialing tone correctly:
Press the Options button on the operator panel five times until ON HOOK DIAL is displayed.
Press Select. You should hear a dialing tone.
If you can't hear a dial tone, make sure that the speaker volume is set to High. (Go to Fax, press Options eight times until SPEAKER VOLUME is displayed, then use the plus or minus buttons to change the setting to HIGH. Press Select.)
If there is still no dial tone, unplug the power cable and the phone lead, then plug them back in and try again.

Faxes can be sent but not received:
Connect the Lexmark All-in-One directly to the phone port. IMPORTANT: Do NOT connect any phones to the EXT port.
Make sure the Fax receive mode is set to answer the fax after 3 rings. (Press the Fax button on the operator panel and then press Options three times until ANSWER FAX WHEN is displayed. Change the settings using the - or + buttons as appropriate.)

Faxes can be received but not sent:
Make sure that Country Code is set correctly:
Press the Fax button on the operator panel and then press Options 15 times until Advanced is displayed.
Press Select.
Press Options 13 times and then press the + or - button until the right country is displayed.
Press Select.

IMPORTANT! These tests must be carried out with NO EXTENSIONS, i.e. phones or answering machines, connected to the EXT port on the All-In-One.
