Belkin n wireless router dropouts on mac and pc

I have a belkin F5D8236-4 N wireless router that my mac desktop and pc laptop both use. the router drops the connection sporadically. sometimes just the wireless light goes out; other times all the lights go out at once, then it starts coming back on.
i've moved the router all around to different areas, and that doesn't seem to solve the problem.
thanks for your help!

Yes, I have reset it multiple times. I tried to download the firmware from the Belkin site, but it will not open on my mac (says it's not a video file...?).

Yes, the connection stay up when bypassing the router. It happens all the time - sometimes a few times in an hour. I'm not sure how to tell if it's just the router dropping or the modem also.

Does your connection stay up when you bypass your router, i.e. plug a pc directly into your modem.? Does it happen at a certain time? Is just your router dropping or your modem dropping also?

Also, try to update the firmware of the Belkin Router.

Have you tried a hard reset, then setting up the wireless anew?

Check for a firmware update and, if that doesn't work, call Belkin and discuss a possible warranty replacement.

I have had nothing but problems with their equipment and do not recommend it.

My mac laptop can't connect to belkin n300 router wirelessly

There is a small piece of paper underneath the router with original passwords, and the default was WPA security.
Hold the reset in the back till it cycles to remove any custom settings.

Belkin Wireless N router/Embarq 660 modem/No internet

Make sure your physical connection is correct. From the modem, the ethernet cable should plugged in to the Internet/WAN port of the router. And your computer to port 1. Access the setup page of the router again and Enable the MAC Address Clone setting. Clone the MAC Address of your PC there then power cycle the router and modem. You should be all set.

Wireless

Have you configured the Belkin wireless router?
You need to configure the Belkin using a 10baseT network cable first before you configure the wireless card.

To make your wireless router secure you need to use your browser and type in the Belkin IP configuration address.
Then you need to change the Admin password, change SSID and turn off SSID broadcast, setup the encryption (use WAP or WAP2 if your wireless card supports WAP) and for added protection use MAC address filtering.

Losing internet connection when I try to connect laptop to wireless router

Your cloning the mac address - thats the problem. It should use it's own mac address to connect to the modem. You need to power down the modem, then repower after a minute or so to let it connect to the new mac address. The problem you are seeing is due to network collisions betweenj the desktop and the router with the modem.
