My Holman retractable hose reel won't rewind the hose after fully extending it
The Booklet says "if the hose retraction wheel is stuck and the hose is fully extended, the wheel still have movement. Grip the hose close to the guide hole and gently pull.
The retraction wheel will give you enough movement to unlock itself before you slowly allow the auto retraction wheel to wind the hose back into the unit."
They also say when walking the hose back to the unit, turn the tap off and press the lever on the watering gun to release pressure on the hose. This makes the retraction to the hose reel a lot easier and prolongs the life of your hose reel.

HI,
FIRSTLY DETACH WAND FROM UNIT AND SLIDE HOSE DOWN AS FAR AS IT GOES, SPRAY A LITTLE WD40 OVER WAND AND SLIDE HOSE UP AND DOWN, AS FOR THE CAP, TAKE A PAIR OF PLIARS, GRAB HOLD OF END OF CAP AND PULL CAP FULLY OUT OF THE HANDLE,AT THIS POINT CHECK THE SPRING OR REMOVE THE SPRING IF YOU PREFER AND PUSH THE CAP BACK INTO HANDLE AND THAT WILL DO IT FOR YOU.

It sounds like the rewinder spring either came off the retainer or broke. If it broke it must be replaced. If it just came off, it can be put back on and rewound. It is a LONG flat piece if springsteel which is VERY sharp. Be Careful.

You will need to take the machine apart to correct this. Open the front of the canister and remove the bag. As you are looking at the front of the unit, there are two vinyl covered strips that run the length of the unit. Pull forward on these strips and then pull out so that the vinyl separates from the plastic underneath. Now grab the plastic strip with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull towards the front of the canister. These can be tough if the machine has never been opened up before, but pull as hard as you need to, to slide the strip out. Once both strips are out, turn the machine over, pull out on the sides of the bottom of the unit, and lift up. The bottom should come off relatively easily, and everything will be exposed. Now, assuming that the cordwinder isn't damaged, you should be able to wind the cord in by hand. Once it gets started it may start to retract automatically. Usually the spring just gets in a bind against the housing when it's over extended, and rolling it in by hand a little will free it up. Good Luck!!
