Monitor frequently changes into a series of black and white stripes.
Monitor goes wavy and then turns into a series of vertical black and white stripes. Turning it off and then back on solves the problem. I have changed the cable to a VGA cable, but no luck.

The video board inside that connect this to you vid card is going bad and will need replacment. There is not really much you can do troubleshooting this. Thanks and good luck

It may sound strange but be absolutely sure the cable is plugged into the monitor. Adapter on the computer.
The serial adapter on the back looks just like video.
Video actually has a faintly noticeable monitor icon rigtht next to it.
Plugging into a serial can eventually blow out your monitor.
Also, a.badcable can do the same thing.
And if you have messed up the monitor's settings you will see the same
Okay you proved it is the monitor, but first sub the video cord from the computer to the monitor if possible, if okay! at this point you are looking at a LCD panel display problem, cheaper to replace than go through expensive repairs.
IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........
ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER
Hope this will help out in solving the problem....
I have smth same... my monitor as gets warm, has a vertical stripe that become blurry, then it becomes worse till the white or black striped, like a zebra line appears? Some electricians have changed the condensators, have put the radiators to reduce the heat, hell knows what is with it, I really like it but no1 can fix it... any1 have any ideas?
Yeah, I have this exact same problem, except my mom slammed my laptop shut in frustration around half an hour ago, so that's why it's like this. The right half of my screen is black with two colorful stripes (mostly white), but the left half is visible. I've researched a bit and found out that this is because the LCD in your monitor has burnt out, and since you don't have a monitor to attach, the only thing you can do is to go to where you bought the laptop and either get it fixed for free or return it for a brand new one (if your warranty still stands). If not, you might as well get a new laptop. I think my warranty has expired, so I'll get a new laptop, hopefully.
Try Booting To An External Monitor If able to...
If Display is Normal In It, Your LCD Display Panel Is Bad... The Circuit Board Attached to the Display Panel has Gone Bad...
But If You Hook It Up To External Monitor and It Doesnt Work...
Your Video Card/Chip is bad
it risky if you always use your monitor that has a factory defect..i suggest to return to the store for some replacement of your monitor...coz your monitor has a warranty.
Hi Detrix,
Check with www.lcdrepair.net if you want a repair. Something is wrong with your LCD controller and or GUI interface circuit or the circuit supplying power to it. If your technically endowed, you may want to open the monitor case and clean the dust and lint from around the circuits using a Small paint brush to sweep away any built up dust. These circuits take the Signal from the computer and controls the 2.5 million pixels on the LCD screen. Dsut can cause major problems with handling all that data. Give it a shot, what do you have to loose, its not dangerous if the monitor is unplugged.
