Ok, I realize this machine is already EOL, but if anyone else runs into this issue, I found the answer here.
Press the "Utility" button
Press the "Access" button
Press * four times
Press the "Maint" soft button on the touch screen
Press the "Service Mode" soft button on the touch screen
Once you are in there, you can reset the admin password by pressing the "Administrator # Initialize" soft button, and that will reset the admin password back to the default 00000000. This is actually for an IT3640, but evidently, this works for a few other models of NEC copiers as well.

I looked through the service manual for this and I see "tech rep mode" listed. I don't think you can access this from your digital screen, but look for it. Other than that it suggested opening the "front door" and closing it again with the power on to reset. Hope this helps. If you manage to access the Tech Rep mode, there is a button to press to reset the machine...

C0500 refers to a low fuser temperature. You can attempt to clear the code by using the tech rep service mode. Go to "Counter" Go to "Trouble" Trouble reset If "warm Restart Swich" is asked for- This can be actuated through a small access hole on the right side of the control panel, using a straightened paper clip or something similar. You may need to clear the counter by pressing "clear" and then "end". After clearing the code, power cycle the copier. If it comes to "ready" you are all set. If not, you may have a blown heat lamp or thermal fuse which would need to be replaced by a technician. Good Luck!!"
