I went through this exercise with a Siemens Gigaset 8800. The solution is to DE-register the handset first. Then register it with your base. This function can likely be accessed in the handset menu. The phone you purchased is apparently still registered to the previous user's base.

Base is flashing and cannot dial out

HERE'S THE LINK TO THE MANUAL.
The handset is either too far from the base or it needs to be registered. The instructions are in the manual.

When Gigaset handset won't register.

Your handset could be broken and does not work or it might not be compatible with what you are trying to register it with.

Siemens Gigaset 4200 Cordless keep searching for base

The handset should be returned to the charging station, let it set for a few seconds. If this is a satellite phone, make sure the main phone "base unit" is connected to phone outlet and plugged in. After the phone has established its physical connection with the base again you can remove it and use it like normal.

My Siemens gigaset A 490 cordless phone is showing Register HS what i have to do pl advise

To register the Gigaset handset, you need to have the handset near the base. Press and hold the Register/Paging button on the base for 3+ seconds (it's hidden by the handset when on the base). A shorter press of the button will activate the Paging feature. Then within 60 seconds of pressing the Register button on the base, press Menu and select Settings. Press OK and go to Handset. Press OK and then select Register HS. Enter the base PIN (default is 0000) and then press OK. (Use the up/down arrows to navigate the menus.) You will see Registering flash on the display of the handset for approximately 1 minute while the registration is processed.

The manual for the Gigaset A490 is available here: http://gigaset.com/medias/sys_master/A31008-M2200-R301-2-3S19_en-fr-es_USA_CAN.pdf . If you need it in another language (or country), start here: http://gigaset.com/hq/en/product/GIGASETA490.html?tab=manuals .

I hope this helps.

FLASHING BASE 1 - PHONE'S LOCKED

Unplug the batteries for 30-45 seconds. Reinstall, and attempt to re-register the handsets to the base.

My siemens 4010 cordless phone is saying "Base Search" recently

"Base Search" will display for several reasons.
  1. The base station is turned off or not working properly.
  2. The handset is not registered.
  3. The handset may be registered somewhere else, de-register it.
  4. The units (both base and handset/s) may need to be reset to factory default.
You may have already tried this.

Problem Siemens Gigaset 4000 and 4200

If you had a storm, and the only handset that works shows line in use, then your base has gone bad and needs repair. The reason the phones are flashing base 1 or something to that effect is because they don't see the base anymore, which typically means no phones will see your base, so its odd that one phone is actually seeing the base. Either way, you can try re-registering the phones to the base, but if you get the line in use after they register (if they will register), then your base is bad. If they won't register, your base is bad. For additional assistance you can go to www.cordlessrepair.com

Siemens Gigaset 4200

Hello, Yes this happens when you add a additional handset to the system when all the intercom numbers are full. When registering a new handset, it "kicks out" on of the other handsets when it registers. The only way to correct that problem is to default your base and register each handset again, one by one. You won't lose your handset settings, but you will lose your messages and greetings, so check them before doing so. To default your unit, get all your handsets and go to your base. Unplug the power from your base. Hold down the page/registration key on the bottom of the base and keep it held down while you apply power to the base. After applying power, keeping the button down, count to 20. Then release the button and get each handset. Register each handset, and they will number themselves 1 through 4. If you need additional assistance, service or need to purchase another handset or base (you can register each handset to up to four bases to increase your range, this is unique feature in the cordless industry), you can go to www.cordlessrepair.com for all your Siemens cordless needs. Good Luck ! Let us know how it goes, we have a testimonial page on the website for people to leave comments on the technical tips or assistance they receive from our technicians.

Answering machine

Unfortunately the 4010 model does not have a built in answering machine but does have features to work with your local telephone companies voice mail. If you want to keep your same phones and get a base with a built in answering machine you will need to replace your 4010 base with a 4015 base (up to three handsets), or a 4215 base (up to four handsets). But don't toss out your old base, you can use it to extend your range if you ever use a 4200 series handset that will allow you to register each handset to up to four seperate bases simultaneously to extend the range. You can buy the 4015 or 4215 base only and save yourself some money. You can google Siemens cordless repair or go to the Siemens website to find a few options.
