Knob not working and some burners not heating

I have a Jenn-Air electric ceramic smooth cooktop with 4 burner elements. One of the knobs does not work and a red light under the knob is on all the time. Also, not all burners are heating sufficiently. What to do?

The heat adjustment for the hot plate is not working. The hot plate turns on but only operates on high

Jenn air cooktop hot plate has no heat control- stays on high all the time

  • Anonymous Mar 21, 2014

The "WestingHouse"Cooktop with Ceramic Top". For last 5 years it was heating only the area around the heating coil. Recently it started to heat outside the Heating coil area "Outside the circular mark". This can be observed from all 4 heating areas.
There is no electrical short between (L-E), or (N-E).
heat controlling of the cook-top is working perfectly.
    Any solutions.

The switch under that knob is bad.  It's called an infinite switch.  As far as the elements go, first thing to check is for proper voltage (220) to the cooktop.  Let me know what you find.

Tripping breaker

Replace the burner and receptacle and you should be short free. You may also need to replace the surface element switch too if it doesn't come on at all or stays on high regardless off knob setting.

Jenn-Air 30 in. JGD8130 Gas Cooktop

Yes. Buy a burner module. Sears sells them also most appliance part stores. (I am assuming you have the model with 2 knobs on the grill side) The electric version of burner modules is around $100 Gas should be similar price.

Remove ceramic cooktop

grouch, kill the power to the cooktop. You are going to have to remove the mounting brackets from undernieth and push the cooktop up. After it's up from it's installation position remove the side and back screws holding the top to the botom. Remove the burner knobs and it should come apart. Sounds like you have a bad burner switch.
