Question about Sony Grand WEGA KF50WE610 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
On switching on, the power / standby light turns green and flashes (as it does when tv is workign normally). After the green light flashes many times, it turns red and flashes 5 times, followed by a long pause, flashes 5 times, followed by a long pause etc.... FInally, the red light stops flashing, as though the TV was not switched on. I tried resetting to factory settings by: - Disconnecting the power cable for 1 mt and connecting again (now, red power / standby light is on). - Pressing the up arrow (ciecular dial int he remote, clicked on the up-arrow)). - Pressing the Power switch. Result: No change. The power light remains red as though TV is off. Thanks in advance.

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.
If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

3 blinks is a lamp cover error, did you make sure that the lamp cover is screwed in tight? Also check the lamp cover for deformity, there is a problem with your model where the set over heats and melts the lamp cover a little causing it not to make connection with the lamp cover switch. Let me know if you find either of these problems? If not we can troubleshoot a little further.
