The photos can be deleted by opening the yellow "My Files" box shaped icon that you can view by swiping the touch screen from right to left and then swiping from top to bottom until you get to the letter M list of apps. Tap on the My Files icon and then tap images and then camera. Tap on the box next to the photos that you want to delete so that you see a green tick. Then tap on the dustbin icon and delete the selected photos.

and to totally close the apps open, double tap the home key then tap the apps below which will be appearing after you double tap the home key then tap the "x" or just swipe up.
In the locked mode,press the power key (side-key on the right). You can toggle the mode on and off that way, as funnily enough,it's an intentional feature.
