Turning off your console shouldn't have damaged your disk (unless you knocked it and the disk was scratched), what is more likely is that your saved data was corrupted. Try starting a brand new game, if this works you can be pretty sure it's the data saved on the console and not the disk. If that doesn't work have a good look at your disk, clean off any fingerprints or dirt, if there are any deep scratches you may need to get them polished out ( most good games stores can do this for you pretty cheaply).
