ALL FUEL LINES

On Mac 3200, from primer bulb (has both a long and a short nipple), a hose goes from short nipple to where? And hose goes from long nipple to where? I am confident that a hose goes from fuel filter in tank to carburetor. (Aside...I noticed a small perfectly round hole near neck of bar chain oil tank. Almost as though it is intended. Is that correct?)

The bulbs on chainsaws are not primers, they are purges so they pull fuel from the carb into the bulb and back to tank, the short connector is the suction side so goes to the carn, the longer connector is the pressure side so goes back to the tank.

SOURCE: Fuel hose routing problem on a Mac 3200 Chainsaw

This post helped me with my McCulloch Mac 3216 chainsaw. There are two holes in the gas tank - one above the other. One is for the gas line (with the filter on the end) and the other is for the overflow - a simply line that runs from the "out" nipple on the primer bulb into the gas tank. The filtered fuel line goes to the nipple on the back of the carb. Another short line goes from the "in" nipple on the primer bulb to the nipple on the front of the carb.

There are two notches just out from the two holes in the gas tank for holding the lines that go in -- this may help you locate the holes.

I found it helpful to pull the lines that go into the gas tank out through the gas cap hole and leave them hanging out until the housing was reassembled. I also left the lines that plug into the primer bulb hanging out through the hole where the bulb goes until the housing was put back on. Leave plenty of extra line for the lines going out to the primer bulb. Once the housing is in place, cut the lines to the primer bulb and attach them, and slip the lines into the tank, making sure the ends are as far down in the tank as possible. You will need this extra "slack" to work with the housing to get it back on.

SOURCE: I have fuel lines off

The primer pulls fuel from the carb, into the bulb , and back into the tank, there are two conections on the back of the primer, the shot conection is the suction side so connects to the carb, the longer conection is the pressure side, so this goes back to the tank, it just pushes into the top of the tank with nothing on the end, just a tight fit in the tank, the line from the tank with the filter on the end gose to the fuel inlet on the carb, nearest to the alluminium pump side cover normally held with a single screw.

I have a weedeater 150 mph blower that i need to replace the small and large fuel lines. Do both lines go to the bottom of the tank? does it matter which nipple the large hose goes onto? At the moment the...

Both lines do go to the bottom of the tank. One is the supply line (has in-tank fuel filter on it) and the other is the fuel return line (only needs to be in the tank for 1/2" or 1". It does matter which nipple on the external primer bulb the lines connect to. One sucks in and one pushes out. If you push on it with your finger covering one of the nipples, it is easy to tell if it is sucking or pushing. It will make a little pop, when you remove your finger if it is sucking. Here is the lowdown.
The small diameter line out of fuel tank (has filter in-tank on end) connects directly to the side of the carburetor that has the fuel pump....that is the cover without the hole in it. Other larger diameter fuel line out of tank connects to the longer nipple on the external purge/primer bulb. The bulb "pulls" fresh fuel from the fuel tank to the carb and then out of the carb to itself, where it then "pushes" any air/old fuel back into the fuel tank. The remaining larger diameter fuel line in this setup goes from the metering chamber (has cover with writing on it and a vent-hole) side of the carburetor to the smaller nipple on the purge/primer bulb. Again, on the primer bulb, the longer nipple has a line going directly from it to the tank. This is the return line. The shorter nipple on the bub has a line from it going to the metering chamber side of the carb. If the purge/primer bulb is on top of the carb...small line from carb body to small hole in tank with filter. Larger diameter line goes from the bulb on the fuel pump side of the carb to the larger hole in the fuel tank where sometimes the line is held in place with a nylon nipple connector that keeps the line from pulling out of the tank. Otherwise, the line should enter the tank for 1/2" or so.

Need diagram for fuel line in tank fuel filter

The small diameter fuel line that has the fuel filter in the tank on it goes directly to the carburetor (with the built-in primer or externally mounted primer). IF the carb has the external primer, the small line goes to the nipple on the carburetor opposite the end with the hole in the cover. If it has the built-in primer on it, it goes to the carb body on the nipple furthest from the bulb. The large diameter line is the fuel return line and if the carb has the bulb on it, this line connects on the nipple closest to primer bulb.. With the externally mounted primer, this line connects on the longest nipple coming out of the primer and goes to the fuel tank (not the filter though). There is a nylon connector inside the tank that holds this larger line in place. The shorter nipple on primer bulb has a smaller diameter fuel line connected to it and connects to the nipple on the carb closest to the end with the hole in the cover. Built in primer has 2 fuel lines...externally mounted has 3.

How fuel lines hook up to primer ball

The supply line coming from the stone filter goes to the short nipple on the prime bulb and the line out from the long nipple on the priming bulb goes to the fuel nipple on the carb that is the closest to the muffler. The return nipple is the closest to the choke and it goes back to the hole in the tank that is the higest. I hope that helps.

I am replacing the fuel tank assy and purge bulb (i.e. primer) on my Sears Craftsman model 358.798940. The original plastic tubing was old and brittle and broke apart while disassembling, so I could not...

The order of fuel travel should be:
Fuel filter to fuel hose to Carb's Fuel Supply nipple. (On the main body of the carb)
Primer Plate Nipple on carb to fuel hose to Suction Nipple on Primer Bulb. (It must pull fuel thru the carb, not push)
Pressure Nipple on Primer Bulb to fuel hose to Fuel Tank Return hose.

When correctly installed, the fuel will be PRESSED into the fuel tank via the return hose when primer is pressed in . . . and SUCTIONED out of the tank and into the Carburetor when primer in released.

Hope this helps,

McCulloch Chainsaw carb not getting fuel

This is the same problem I have with a Mac 3200. I have: (1) A line from the primer bulb to the front port on the carburator. (2) line from fuel tank, with attached fuel filter, to the other primer bulb port. (3) Line from port on back of carb. to ????. I thought it must be a pulse line, but not certain, and don't know where to run it to. Please let me know when you find out.

Replacing a fuel line for a Poulan 2175 type 2 chainsaw

Take top cover off(3 screws). Take off the 2 nuts holding the carb on. Pull carb part way out to access the hoses. Remove the 3 old hoses after making a diagram of where they connect. Buy new hoses. Cut one end of the small hose on a bevel, pierce both sides 1/8 th inch from the end with a needle. Thread a thin wire through both holes. Thread both wire ends into the gas tank. Use a hemostat or long needle nose plyers to pull the wires and then hose down into the tank. Attach the weighted fuel filter. The other end of this smaller diameter fuel line goes on the upper nipple on the carb. Take the side cover off (4 screws) to access the primer bulb. Take 2 screws out to remove the bulb which has 2 nipples. The longer nipple connects to the larger diameter hose which goes to the fuel tank. The larger diameter tube has a coupler on the end which is inside the gas tank. It took me an hour to change all 3 hoses.
