Usually between 5-15 minutes into me using the system, it will automatically power down and won't even show a red light on the power button until I unplug the power cord and plug it back in. I have had the internal power supply replaced and replaced the power cord, but the problem is still there.
SOURCE: won't power on or eject game. solid red light on-won't do anything else
Hmm. I'm not quite sure exactly what the problem is, but if your playstation doesn't turn at all when you flip the back switch it means your harddrive is probably fried.
SOURCE: Five minutes on then automatic shut down Bliking red light on PS3
maybe its your power cord it happened to me also
SOURCE: ps3 wont turn on using controller and power button...
try cycling the power on the back of the console
are the lights blinking on your controller when you press them?
SOURCE: PS3 not turning on (red light -> green light -> no lights)
Keep trying for a while, eventually you will get the YLOD. This is a failed power supply. You need to either get a new one from eBay or send it in for repairs. I'd recommend getting one off ebay, even just used - unless it's in warranty, sending it to Sony will be very expensive ($150) and you will not get your own unit back.
Good luck.
Testimonial: "Cool! I've suspected it was power supply. I'm sending it to a Technician. There is no Sony support in my country. It's all unnoficial, sadly."
SOURCE: PS3 shut off with blinking red light, there is power, ejected cd.
The blinking red light means the system has over heated and normally the system will shut off by itself and will not come back untill cool.(but not in all cases does the system work completely correct in that situation).
The hard disk may possibly have something to do with this occurance, but I honestly doubt it.
It may be the system final moments until it dies but it may be fine.(the normal life span of a ps3 is about 2 yrs.)
If it's not just the system crapping out it may juss be the power supply and I would do some trouble shooting in that area but again,I am doubtful.
Smart thinking about taking the game out and I would advise don't put it back in until you know for sure that the system is good (because honestly MW2 is TOO awesome to risk it!!)
If all else fails, you could call SONY but if they can't fix it over the phone then they will want you to trade for a refurbished system for $150 or if its under warranty it's free.
I hope I have helped and I hope it all works out!!!!
