Unless you are using a current sensing relay or sail switch, you need to get the humidifier power from the blower motor supply so it only operates when the blower is on. Since you can manually control the humidifier, there is not a fault with the solonoid.
First the solenoid valve should have been rated at your line voltage. Your installer was an idiot.
Secondly, although a step down transformer (could) have cured the problem, the solenoid valve was actually burned out by over voltage and it ceased to work within a few minutes of operation causing the water to keep running.
I hope the replacement solenoid is rated at the correct voltage now so that you do not need a transformer.
Since I do not posess supernatural remote viewing powers to know that the installer had put in the wrong voltage solonoid then I feel totally vindicated.
Please do not blame me for your incompetent installers mistake with the voltage rating.

YOU WERE WRONG. IT APPEARS WE HAD TWO PROBLEMS. THE FIRST WAS THAT WE NEEDED A STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER AS THE SOLENOID WOULD ONLY WORK PROPERLY AT 24 VOLTS. IT SEEMS THAT THE FURNACE CO. THAT INSTALLED OUR FURNACE FORGOT TO PUT IN THE TRANSFORMER SO THE SOLENOID WAS OPEN ALL THE TIME AND EVENUTALLY WAS UNABLE TO CLOSE COMPLETELY SO THAT WATER CONTINUED TO FLOW THRU IT CONSTANTLY EVEN WHEN YOU MANUALLY CLOSED IT. AFTER PUTTING IN THE TRANSFORMER WE FOUND OUT THAT THE SOLENOID WAS NOT CLOSING COMPLETELY AND WATER WAS STILL RUNNING THRU IT. SO WE DID NEED A NEW SOLENOID.
ALSO, THE CURRENT SENSING RELAY WAS ALREADY BUILT INTO THE BOARD IN THE FURNACE SO IT WAS NOT NECESSARY TO INSTALL ONE.
