He has accessed the bios and change the boot setting devices by enabling the floppy drive which you do not have.

Go Bios (F1 or F2) on first screen. and select load default setting

Also go to Boot Options and make sure 1st boot is the HDD not FDD or removable disk

Also in any menu mention of Floppy Disk make sure it is set to not installed or disabled.

keep me posted

Type password and I have replaced the battery in my computer. The message I am receiving on the screen is Diskette drive 0 seek failure.

For the diskette drive 0 seek failure, does the computer skip past this error without difficulty ? If it does, then you may ignore it. It is caused probably by your replacing the battery having reset the BIOS which is thinking now it should find a floppy disk to boot from. If you haven't a floppy disk, or have floppy disk drive you will get this message. I do, but I ignore it. When you power up, you could try entering the BIOS setup, by pressing for example, the esc, F1, F2 or F8 keys - for your model I don't know which, you may find out from the internet, your manuals, or the Dell website/help or support - repetitively before the computer starts,
( from Dell support - "You can enter the system BIOS or Setup on a Dell PC by pressing F2 at the Dell loading screen").and somewhere the BIOS setup there should be the boot order change this to CD first (no CD inserted unless it is bootable), then USB if available (no media USB inserted, some USB devices are ok), the HDD. You should not set HDD first because this will give you big problems if it goes wrong and you need to boot from somewhere else. Put floppy disk after HDD and the message will disappear.

I don't know about the password issue. I suggest you contact Dell support on this topic.

WhEn I turn it on a black screen comes up and says

which operating sys. is in use.
and when do you get a password screen is it before dell logo or is it when you click on your user name.
if it comes before dell logo then it is bios password. and you need to open the tower and reset the bios jumper and if it is windows password and if it is vista you can reset the password.
Here is the process to run Imagex:
1. Boot to the computer using VISTA DVD.
2. Select the option repair my computer.
3. Go to command prompt
4. Go to D: prompt
5. Type Path d:\windows;d:\windows\system32 and press Enter
6. Go to Tools folder using command "cd tools".
7. Use this command Imagex /apply d:\dell\image\factory.wim 1 c:\
This process will take 15 Minutes after that reboot the system. After rebboting we will get OOBE Screen.
We can logon to the system using new username. We can retrieve the data by navigating to old user profile.
How to retrieve the data from the old user profile after using the Imagex procedure :
1. Click Computer
2. Click Local Disk C:
3. Locate Windows.old and double click on the same
4. Click Users
5. Click <username>
Note : <username> would be the login name for which he has forgotten the password
6. Accordingly you can access the files available in the folders Desktop, Favourites, Music, Downloads etc
7. Copy the required files and save it in the desired location
