The display screen on my Ricoh Afcio super G3 copier says: door/covers open close covers of relay unit. I have opened and closed every door I could. Also I looked in the manual but there was no reference at all to the relay unit. Machine won't do anything. HELP!!!
I believe the "relay Unit" on that machine is the section that transports copies to either the finisher (if installed) or the exit tray on the LEFT side of that machine. Sometimes neither of these units are present, but the relay unit may still be installed.
There are 2 flip up covers on that section (left and right), and you will probably see that one of them (usually the left one) has come unclipped, or perhaps the plastic clip that holds it closed is broken. If you flip up this unit. You will see a black button at the back end that is engaged when ther unit is closed. If you simply pree this button with your finger, hopefully the message will go away - this may at least help you troubleshoot what is causing the "cover open" message). Even if the clip is broken, it is often just a matter of seating the unit correctly so that the switch is engaged when the unit is closed. There is also the same switch on the right cover that could be causing the problem, but this cover doesn't sem to get damged as often.
I hope this helps. Please let me know.
Yes, you're looking in the right place. When I said "unclipped", I should have said "unhinged", But when you open them, it would be obvious if that was the case.
There is also a third cover on the right side that allows the pages to exit in the middle of the machine. Is it closed tightly?
You could also try re-seating the plug connectors of the unit.
Turn main power (red switch) "off", then look into the middle of the machine where the relay section is located. toward the back of the machine, and on the right side, you will see a flat cover (kind of triangular in shape) that has a release tab (sometimes the cover is not installed and the connectors are visible). Remove this cover and unplug the 2 connectors, then re-connect, and power on machine.
Note: It might be easier to do this from the back side of the machine.
If this doesn't help, please let me know if you have either the upper, middle exit tray installed (above the "relay unit") and/or a finisher (sorter) on the exit end of the machine, or even an exit tray. In other words, do your copies normally come out the left side of the machine, or into the middle (on top of the "relay unit")?
anytime....happy to help :)

This is a Ricoh Aficio 350. Other than its reference to the relay cover there is no indicator as to where this open door/cover is located. Its exact message is as follows: doors/covers open....close covers of relay unit. no flashing icon.
Thank you, I hope to hear back from you soon
I tried this.........no luck. There are buttons that are pushed when the covers are closed, but I am unclear on what you mean when you say that the cover may have come un-clipped? I don't see any thing that holds it closed.
Just to be sure I am looking at the correct covers, they are located under the top area where the control panel and such are located? and they flip up to the left and right...........am I looking in the right place?
I appreciate your help........please keep trying, I cannot afford to have someone come out to look at this.
You were right the first time. It was the button that the door is supposed to hold down on the left side of the machine!! I think maybe when I tried it the first time I had the other cover open, so the massage did not go away. I also un-plugger and re-plugged in the connectors on the back of the machine.
Thank you so so much for all your help. I didn't want to put a bunch of money in this machine, nor did I want to buy a new one. You are my hero!!
Please provide the model number, "super G3' is the faxing method the machine utilizes, not the model. The model number will be a 3-4 digit number. and also does it indicate with a flashing icon on the display (if applicable) as to the cover that is open, or any other info you can provide?
