If it is not logging you in it is because the login name or password is wrong (caps lock?) or the account is disabled or locked out or non-existant or you are attempting to log in to a domain that user does not have an account on. Make sure you are trying to log in to the local machine, capitalization is correct and your keyboard isn't inputting multiple characters when your intent is a single one. If you have a different account with administrative privileges, try that one and use it to reset the password on the preferred account.

If you can't log in as a different user, you will need something like ERD commander or http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ with this plugin http://www.bootcd.us/BartPE_Plugin_Details/394/Change-Administrator-Password.html so you can boot from CD and re-set the password for the administrator account. Once you have it fixed, set up a second administrator account so you have a backup account to log in with, that allows you to do administrative things like reset passwords and unlock accounts, just in case.

How

Are you talking about... ADMINISTRATOR'S PASSWORD, WORK GROUP PASSWORD to Server Database Login???
If you are talking about WINDOWS LOGIN at boot... try F5 or F8 to choose... DOS PROMPT(command prompt; safe mode command prompt is Ok as well)
Use the "CD" command to "change directory"... to change to the C:\WINDOWS directory---i.e...C:\Users\USER> cd C:\WINDOWS
Then use the command line... C:\WINDOWS dir /p/w
Now.... LOOK CLOSELY-- for "any files" with the extention of----
.pwd (this is the extention for "password files")
Simply......(example command line)---- del C:\WINDOWS\*.pwd
Type the word.... "exit" after first available Command Line to EXIT DOS... use CTRL-ALT-DEL to REBOOT
