I set my ringtone as a text alert on my s390g by choosing "other" at the bottom of the list then changing it to look at the folder I have my tones in. not that tough.

but I still have yet to find how to set individual tones for texts from different people. been able to do it on my 2 previous phones

For txt message tones, it has to be in a certain format. mp3 or wma formats dont work. for text messages only mmf formats work.
i dont think these can be bought. you have to re-format the ringtone to an mmf format using a converter.

I would like to change text message ring tone but can only find how to change ringtone and not for text messages

I found the answer!! Go to Menu>Settings>Profiles, then go to Options>Edit. Push the right side of the square (that you use to navigate the menus) so that you're working with New Messages, not Incoming Call. Go down to Message Alert Tone, then go to Options>Change>Use Effect Tone. If you were trying to use an .mmf that you downloaded, or any of the preloaded ones that can be used as incoming call ringtones, you'd go to Use My Alert Tone here. There are 4 tones under Use Effect Tone, and you can play them and choose one, just like you do to play and choose your ringtone.

Set a ringtone for a text message SYNC SGH-A707

"My Effect Tones" can only be MMF files. Ringtones can be WAV, MMF, MP3, etc... as long as the file is under 300kb I think. You need to convert your ring tones to MMF to use them as "Text Tones"

Samsung sync cant handle a ringtone half of its supposed capacity?

I'm assuming your trying to change your text ring tone. I to had the same problem. And after a little bit of research I found a really good program. Download "mobile ringtone converter" they will give you a free trial. you can pay for it if u like... wink ...wink... Now after you have the full copy. insert any song you want/ edit it any way you want and when your ready..... (for the sync) save it as a *.*mmf file. when its done just tranfer the new *.*mmf file to your phone (i.e. micro SD) then go to setting's/ profiles/ edit your profile/ scroll over to the text mess. icon/ then select message alert tone/ select- use my alert tone/ then slect- your new *.*mmf file you just made. Assuming you did everything right......BAM! new ring tone! p.s. regular ringtone's Can use *.*mp3 format & *.*mmf format... good luck hope it works for ya!
