I believe I have the same problem. The gets power but the platter won't spin. I took it apart and examined the stop/start switch and it appeared to be fine.
    ;
On my other sl1200mk2 I took the platter off. When I held a screw driver to the outside of the electromagnet and pushed start I could feel the magnetic field. On the broken table I did the and could not feel it.

i hope there is a DIY fix for this.. I'm broke

It's usually the fuses under the platter.

Need to know if it powers up. Does it try to spin, do you hear it trying to spin? More than likely the on/off switch went bad. No, I am not referring to the ON/OFF knob. THere is a switch this engages when turned. The part is S601. You might also want to replace the Start/Stop switch as well. If neither work, then the issue is on the main PC board, and probably IC101, or IC201 with the problem. At this stage, you will have to have a service tech look at your unit.

Hi Terminal Optic, Yes it gets power. It will spin if you move it manually. I don't hear it trying to spin. I never thought about the ON/OFF knob. The one on the outside moves and of course the whole unit is connected to my sound system. I guess I'm going to have to buy a power manual as this unit is over 23 yrs. old, but has been kept in perfect condition and not abused. So your saying that the PC board could have just went bad, all by itself? How much does it cost to buy a new one that is just as good or better than this one? I sure appreciate your help. I'll look into it.

I have the same issue, power button is fine, pitch light, pop up light all work fine, just no drive to the turntable, could it be the an6675 requires replacing?

I have read this on another solution.

Yes, my pitch light comes on also, pop up light, just no drive to the turntable. It all gets power also, you can hear it when you turn it on. Wish my brother-in-law lived here now.

There's a 20mm fuse under the platter that often blows . For no particular reason. Replace it and voila.

This is a Direct Drive turntable. It can have a lower supply issue, microprocessor(computer inside your technics) or the drive circuitry. This will not be easy to resolve, and will require professional service. If you are interested in having your technics repaired, please visit my website at [email protected]. Thank you.

Need to replace power cord - Technics 1200 MK2

As long as the only thing damaged is the power cord, this should be easy. You said that you needed to know how to tell which side is positive and which is negative? The power cord carries alternating current not direct current. So in this case, polarity really isn't important. The same applies to the two yellow wires supplying the main motor board. They are A/C too. As long as the replacement cord you use is of equal or higher power handeling, and you make sure your connections are solid, it will work fine regardless of polarity. Just be sure the only problem is the cord. Check this link to be sure. Good luck, EW.

Try plugging it into a different power point. The problem is with the power supply fluctuating. You can eliminate that with a UPS, here is a link to wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterruptible_power_supply

Has anyone else had the problem with their 1200 technics, where the turntable doesnt spin,it judders back and forth??

1, The regulator circuit has failed, usually transistors Q2, Q3 and zener diode D3.

OR

2, The drive I.C (I.C101 / AN6675) has failed, this can be natural failure but also can happen if the deck is turned on and started with the platter removed.

I have a technics 1200 mk2 turntable. It turns on properly, and appears to work, but when I place the needle on the record, I get nothing through the speakers. I don't know if the connection is being...

Turntable signal problems are difficult to locate because of the extremely low signal levels. Are you sure that you have the output of the turntable connected to a Phono input? If connected to a standard AUX or Tape input, you won't hear anything. Check for signal by turning on the unit and touching lightly the needle. You should hear a scratching sound. If not, start with a new needle.

Keep us posted.

Platter will not spin....

Um, why did you clean off the magnet with rubbing alcohol? Is this other DJ a service technician? Please be cautious when taking advice from friends or colleagues. Consult a professional, otherwise, you might cause more damage to your unit. Now, on to the problem at hand... This is a common problem with the MK2's, and not a power issue. This is a drive issue, and you will need to get it professionally serviced by an authorized Pansonic/Technics service center. There are various components which control the drive of the MK2's, so it's not easy to determine which is the culprit. 95% of the time it's one of the IC's (integrated circuits) or a few, or all. Which is why you will need to take to a service tech to get it looked at... Now, I know that's easier said then done, as many service centers do not provide support for turntables, especially the 1200s. So make sure you ask if they are knowledgeable with the Technics SL1200MK2 series. A lot of times, many of these places will be factory authorized to repair Technics/Panasonic items, but none have ever seen a Technics SL1200MK2 turntable, or worked on a direct drive unit. Many work on CD Players, Cassette Decks, etc. Our company offers free return shipping for all Nationwide service, and if your in NYC, we offer free pick up. Oh, and we are masters with the 1200s. Unfortunately, I don't think we can post our company information here, as I do not want to violate any agreements. So, with that said, do a search using the REPAIR SERVICE search option in FIXYA.com and go to the following section-> HOME AUDIO -> Audio Shelf Systems - we are listed.
