Case 580 E backhhoe. Stopped in the middle of working. Won't start until we used starter fluid, but quit as soon as starter flluid was gone. Tries to start, but seems not to be getting fuel. When it quit, I thought I heard a slight pop, but no one else did.

Your either getting air in the system or the injection pump or lift pump is going out.Put a clear piece of hose at the injection pump where the fuel fed is at,then try to start and see if there are air bubbles in the line. If not, then possibly an injection pump.

Case 580E backhoe. Stopped running right in the middle of working. No sputter, nonthing. I thought I head a small pop when it quit, but no one else did. Now it will start when we use starting fluid, but...

check for fuse in the stop solenoid circuit
assuming it is a diesel engine that would be one thing to cause a sudden stop next would be a fuel air leak
if is a disaster to use easy start in a diesel as they have been known on many occasions to blow the piston through the sump, break cranks or blow the heads off
The reason is simple
diesels compress the air to white heat and then inject fuel at around 15 degrees btdc
by spraying in easy start which is highly volatile , it will self ignite around 95 degrees BTDC as it makes the compressing air highly explosive

Turns over but won't fire

If a starter is able to crank the engine but it won't start you usually have either an electrical or fuel problem. It's also remotely possibly that it's compression. If an engine has proper fuel, spark and compression, it will start when you crank it. So your challange is to find out which part isn't working right. Start with fuel. Spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while someone tries to start the engine. If it starts briefly when you're spraying starting fluid, you probably have a fuel delivery problem. That could be injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, relay, fuse... who knows what until you check into it.If it doesn't start with starting fluid, check the spark. Pull a plug wire and attach it to a spare sparkplug and set the plug on a solid metal part of the engine. Have a helper crank the engine while you watch the plug. If you have a good spark, it might just be out of timing. In any case, you'll need to start isolating the problem. Find out which part isn't working then you'll know what to replace/repair.

Car has gas but won't start. Sprayed starter

the most likely reason is a failed fuel pump, plugged fuel filter or defective fuel regulator-you need to have the fuel line pressure tested-you can get the use (free) of a guage set from most commercial auto parts stores.
