Is there a way to password outgoing calls on Nortel t7316E phones

We run a facility that needs to ensure that certain phones cannot be dialed out unless a manager is making the call. At the moment we have had to pull the phones from several rooms just to ensure that the wrong people arent making phone calls on the clock. I know there are some restrictions you can put onto certain extensions but am unsure if you can actually restrict them from making outgoing calls. Any help will be appreciated!

We are using T7316E telephones on a Nortel system... I currently dont know the model numbers on the boxes themselves I just know one is a "Norstar" and the other a "Meridian" if that helps.

Also entering the CONFIG code does work and also feature 983 works to get me into admin stuff each with seperate things to change. I have gotten into both of these modes before to change names on extensions and voice mail boxes etc but I just dont know how to set up account codes or if its possible on this system. Thanks for replying so quickly if you need even further clarification please let me know.

    Okay to answer Ynots question...

I know where the buttons are I just dont have the template for some reason on this phone they are the 4th and 5th buttons down each row of the main set. Why in the word they made it those I have no idea but thats just the way it is.

In response to Galactic that should be a fine situation for these FEW phones. Would doing that make the change systemwide? The main point of the whole idea would be to only allow calls from those phones in emergency situations but still allow those phones to hear pages "IE Phone call for insert name here" and to be able to speak to those people from a non restricted phone without having to walk through the entire building to get to them. I have seen an area under the config screen for restrictions but I played with it a bit and didnt notice any changes happening at all for that extension. Im either in the wrong area entirely or Im not saving the settings correctly or something. As far as an access cos pass I have NO idea how to set that up as I have not even run up on anything mentioning COS yet.

Its a really involved process. I have trouble trying to walk some tech through over the phone. But you have to setup a restriction filter to deny all calls then you have to setup a COS password to override the restriction filter. the user would then press intercom press Feature 68 dial 6 digit override code then dial there number. most ppl how have to use there phone on a regular basis hate this feature.

Very sorry, got caught in work today, busy day!

Been one of those days, and never got to document these steps, but from what I do recall, it is not very hard to make changes.

By chance do you have the programming template that goes over the keys of your telephone to make the programming the system easier?

If you do great, if you don't, there is just a couple of things that I will need to tell you, like where the Heading/Back/Enter/Next buttons are.

There are things called Account Codes, which you can enable on all phones, meaning that if some one wants to make an outgoing call - they need to know the code to allow them access for an out going call.

I will attempt to add an account code on my lab system tomorrow... and I'll see if it is possible to document these steps -or- tell you if it should be done professionally. For security reasons.

First of all, your telephone system, do you know what it is?

-> if you type in Feature * * 2 6 6 3 4 4 does it ask for a password or User ID? This will tell me alot if you can post the answer.

I have 4 lines that were made into speed dial numbers then deleted. On this phone (although not other phones on the same network) they now appear as "blank". If calls are put on hold from another phone to...

You call your Nortel service tech, unless you know the installer password and are familiar with programming. You have to go back into set programming and reassign the lines.

We have a Nortel T7316E & want to transfer live calls to cell

transfer (under screen when on a call) is for internal transfer. you need the external transfer feature from your phone company, then a "link" key programmed on your phone. link is also feature 71. when on a call you hit link or feature 71, then dial the cell or have speed dial buttons for them,.

How do i record new outgoing message ?

From your set, dial: -> FEATURE 9 8 1 -or- the voicemail key -> Put your password in (if this is a new install 0 0 0 0 is your temporary password) -> You'll hear your name and how many messages you have -> now press the number 8
Pressing 8 is to get into the adminsitration of this mailbox, and listen to the prompts. This is where you can change the password, name, greeting. You want to change your primary greeting.
Good Luck!

Need Caller ID displayed on Nortel StarTalk Flash/M7310

A question: -> does your phone ring? -> what software are you running on the system? If you know this will help a little in giving you more information. There is a Feature that you can dial if your phone rings... when there is a call coming in, dial FEATURE 8 1 1 You can even make this a button rather than dialing this feature code everytime: -> Feature * 3 -> press the button that you want to program -> dial Feature 8 1 1
