Cant rinse or make coffee error code 5/1

We just purchased our Krups XP7230 and followed the instructions. Instead of getting to the "rinse cycle" screen (the manual says to rinse before making your first cup of coffee), it just says to fill the bean grinder ("filling of the machine necessary"), which we eventually just did and after preheating, it now it says Error code 5. So we turned it off and on and got to the same spot and now it says Error code 1. Any ideas? (We installed the filter that came with the machine and filled the water container to the appropriate height. We called technical service and they said they don't know what those errors mean and their supervisor would call us back.)

I have an EA8080 Espresseria, i also receive filling of the machine necessary, however on my model it requires me to place something under the steam nozzle and it pumps water through. I occasional get an error code 05.

I though this was associated with water distribution not the grinder itself.

Can anyone confirm what error code 05 means or what 'filling of the machine necessary means?

Yes, you're machine is identical to the xp7240. Look up the post on leaking xp7240 and follow the instructions on how to open the machine and fix the valve.

SOURCE: Jura E9 grinder spins but does not grind

I had a similar problem, and solved it by turning the grinder by hand against resistance. Apparently the grinder wasn't really turning during the cycle and needed to be cleared. If your beans are "hopping" this may be a different problem.

Testimonial: "Grinder is turning but old bean oil is clogging it. Stirring beans on next brewing after drying the grinder was also customer services recommendation"

SOURCE: Beans are too oily

This fixes almost all the "beans will not feed or beans will not grind" problems caused by coffee bean dust packed in the burrs. Oily beans cause this problem more fequently.
a. Pour all the beans out the top.
b. Open the settings up all the way and see what else can be poured out. Use your shop vacuum to **** grounds out the spout and backward out the bean bin.
c. Pour in some instant rice and start grinding. Reduce the grind to a small setting like six and then open the settings all the way again. (The grinder will not start at a low setting with the rice in it. If you let it stop, open the settings to about 16 before trying to restart.)
d. Pour out the rice and vacuum out the ground rice.
e. Adjust the grinder to your favorite setting and try a coffee grind. Grind until most of the rice dust is expelled (any remaining trace of rice dust will not affect the flavor of the coffee).

SOURCE: Krups XP9000 fully auto unit will no longer grind

Perserverance...it's cheaper.

Also found a limit switch which i think is thermal so once removed the grinder is operational again!

Krups Espresseria Automic XP7200 coffee machine

As this is an automatic espresso machine, I suspect that the cake container is where the "used" pucks of ground coffee drop into after your espresso is extracted. The container may not be fully seated in position. See if there is a door on the machine that the container may be hiding behind.
Good Luck.
