Steps to Troubleshoot Canon Printer Error u043:
Step 1: Open the Paper Output Tray gently after turning off the printer.
Step 2: Pull out the Scanning unit or the Printer Cover totally and remove all the ink tanks not touching the Print Headlock lever.
Step 3: Slightly tilt the print head towards the front of the machine after raising the print head lock lever and thus lift that out gently.
Step 4: Perform the above procedure in the mentioned order: Print Head nozzles -> Electrical Contacts -> Ink Supply Ports.
Step 5: Now Replace the print head carefully back to its position until it clicks.
Step 6: Replace the ink tanks into the Print Head firmly until you hear a click
Step 7: Close the inner cover and the scanning unit carefully, avoiding jam in fingers.
One can easily solve this effectively. https://www.canonprintersupport247.com/blog/fix-canon-printer-error-code-u043/

The U043 error code indicates that an ink tank is not installed. One or more ink tank icons on the LCD should also be lit up. The lit up icon indicates the applicable ink tank. Verify these tanks are indeed fully seated in the print head and that they are lit up red.

You can also press the OK button to clear this message and continue.

I have a canon mp600 printer and i really need to print some b&w documents, but because i dont have all the cartridges installed (threw them away, because they were empty)i keep getting the u043...

No. All the cartridges need to be installed to print. Also it is better to keep empty cartridges in the printer rather than throw them away. It will prevent the ink from drying in the print head and ruining it. Canon print heads are replaceable but you can be just as well of buying a new printer if it goes.

Ink Monitoring System

I have this Canon MP600 using unchipped cartridges. Once you have changed the chip over onto the catridge and inseted it should stop flashing which indicates the cartridge is located. The printer will not tell you the level of ink until you run out. When changing the chip over from original cartridge onto unchipped ensure it is not damaged and fitting properly other wise the error sign will show. The printer should print without any problems, i know you can not disable the ink monitoring system. Hope this is some help Mr T

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the u043 problem on the blue cartridge on my mp830.

I was using non-original replacement inks but re-using the chips from the originals - replacing the blue cartridge would cause it randomly work but i then noticed the chip holder was not centred so I realigned it and hey presto! the problem was solved first time.
