Change light bulb without rubber sheath - Husqvarna Lily 540 and 550

I don't have a 707 but do have a 530-2 Record. Unfortunately, with some of these older machines, Bernina did not provide a very good method for accessing the light bulb. On later machines, the side cover would either be hinged or removable. If yours doesn't have this capability, the only way of changing the bulb is by reaching in with your fingertips, gripping, and turning the bulb to remove it and then installing the new bulb in the reverse manner (difficult for someone with big fingers). Sometimes it helps to use thin rubber gloves (like the surgical type), lightly moisten the finger tips to provide more "grip." There is also a sewing tool available that is somewhat like a pencil with a rubber suction at the end made specifically to help with replacing sewing machine bulbs. If you are creative, you may be able to fashion something similar.

Have you tried LED bulbs? I've installed them in all my Berninas. They provide a lot more light and do not get as hot as the regular bulbs--as well as, they supposedly last much longer! They seem expensive at the outset but if I never have to change a bulb again, so much the better!

However, sometimes the bulbs are accessible from below where the bulb is located. In some cases, rubber fingers, rubber garden gloves, or a tool will help provide the grip needed to grasp the bulb to remove it.

If you still have original Acessories there should have been a grey or brown cone shaped rubber gripper that could be slid up on bulb to assist in turning it If not remove the side cover, then back cover to access the bulb. Some 1008's have push in bulb others screw in so be careful not to break bulb as you remove it
push in bulbs must be pushe in and rotated 45 degrees counter clockwise to remove. Of course screw in bulbs just rotated counter clockwise to remove

Your user manual should explain how in detail with pictures. It is sometimes hard to get the bulb out without breaking it. But try this -
With machine unplugged/power off lay machine on it's back. Locate the light bulb. You probably have a little rubber device in your accessory case that has a suction cup on each end. One end will say In and the other will say Out. Use the suction cup to grab the bulb and pull straight out. Use the other end to install the new bulb in the machine.

There are 2 models called 'Rose'. The original Rose is the manual above. The newer Rose is called the Eden Rose. You can find most user manuals for Viking machines on their website. Here's how:

if you don't have the accessory that looks like a short piece of rubber hose used to remove and reinstall the bulb, take the machine to an authorized Viking repair dealer and ask them to install a new bulb.

The machines came with a rubber tool to change the bulb. It helped you grip the bulb. If you don't have one visit your dealer.

You need a little rubber hose that fits over bulb to twist or pull it out, else use some blue tac to grip it with.

There is a bulb removal tool for just this job, I would not be without it. You should be able to get one form your local dealer. Another trick I have used is get an old piece of rubber garden hose cut it to about 1-11/2 inches press firmly against bulb and twist.
