Ice maker flooded top freezer compartment

Whirlpool Refrigerator, Imperial Series Model #ET1LFKXKS03, 3 years old. Found water all over floor, ice maker appears to have flooded top freezer compartment. Ice bucket was full of (previously formed?) ice cubes now suspended in frozen solid water. ALso layer of thin ice in bottom and sides of freezer compartment. Turned off water, power, cleaned up mess. Turned water & power back on.Frig & freezer works OK, but ice maker doesn't take any water from water input. Do we need a new ice maker? Any way to fix the old one?

I was wrong about the water running out of the ice tray. Apparently I overfilled it and the excess was running out! I did get ice cubes later in the day from the water I put in, But after those cubes were ejected no water came in from the wall spigot & no more cubes wre made. Also, the water tray on the floor has a little water in it. I cleaned it out the other day. Could that be from the extra water I overfilled the ice tray with or is it associated with the water input line? So what to do now?

About the high pitched humming, it is intermitent and seems to happen when the compressor(?) is on. It's coming from the back near the floor where the motor and stuff is. Maybe it's just the normal sound, but it hasn't always been so high!

    Thanks!

OK - Apparently I overfilled the ice tray, that's where the run off water was coming from. I DID get ice cubes from the water I put in. But after they ejected, no other water went in from the spigot and no more ice cubes were made. I also noticed water in the tray on the floor. I cleaned all the water out of the tray before I manually filled the ice tray. So I don't know if this water is associated with the overfilled ice trays or if it is somehow connected to the input line? What to do now?

Also, regarding the high pitched hum... it is intermittent, seems to be when the compressor is on(?) It comes from the back near the floor (where the motor is). Perhaps it is normal, but it hasn't always made such a pitched sound.

    Thanks!

It may be just the water control valve on back of refrigerator. Put tap water in ice maker and lower lever for on. After ice is made, does it drop to tray? At this time when empty is the time the control valve is asked for water. The problem could be in valve on back or the inside ice maker itself. If you can try a few test with me I will help you locate the problem. Let me know what you find as I go through this with you. Sea Breeze

I got your email. I believe at the point you need to unplug the refrigerator and take the ice maker out so you can examine the tray up close. For water to run out of the tray means there is a crack in the ice maker. Now with the humming noise, where is the area that it's coming from?

Your ice maker has a thermostat inside and feels the temperature coming from the ice maker tray. When it senses freezing temps. it begins a cycle and the heating element under the ice maker warms up just enough to make it easier for the ice to be ejected from the ice maker. As it finishes its cycle it tells the water control valve to open and fill the tray. Now if that is cracked or leaking that explains the mess inside with the frozen water everywhere. Let me know what you find when you remove the ice maker. Make sure to unplug the refrigerator while working on it. And try your best to let me know where the sound is coming from, Sea Breeze

The water in the freezer area can come from 2 places. Yours seems to come from the ice maker area. When this began the water was all over the place and the ice bucket had frozen water. So if the water did not go into the ice maker then the water came from a cracked fill tube that enters the back of the freezer and crosses over into and over the trough that the ice maker has to catch the water. Now if that tube is cracked and or broken the water will go any place. It does sound like for now the ice maker is trying to refill normally. So I can only recommend for now that you remove the ice maker and examine the fill tube closely. If frozen, use a hair dryer to melt the water inside the tube. For some reason your model does not show that it came with the ice maker. I also cannot find a replacement fill tube. I would carefully examine that tube. It will be hard to replace. The only other area that the water could come from is if the defrost drain is blocked behind the back wall of the freezer. I don't think it is that problem. Without taking the ice maker out, I find it hard to look the tube over very well. If needed remove the screws on the back of the refrigerator and take it out to examine. Examine the area where the tube goes into ice maker for cracks or defects. If that stops the leak I think your ice maker may work normally. As for the noise, it may be something that you noticed because you are paying attention to what is going on more now. It also could be the area below the refrigerator needs cleaned out and have a look at the condenser fan while running. Check to see if its vibrating or if the base of the refrigerator is not setting properly on floor or pushed against something like the wall. Sometimes refrigerators do strange things and make strange sounds. Until we get the leak fixed I cannot say you need another ice maker or water control valve. This is going to be more like trial and error until we find the reason. I will be here if you need me. Keep me informed to what you find. Thanks Sea Breeze

Water leaks on floor, where isthe defrost drain pan? the manual indicates that water might build up in drain pan, the connections with the ice maker are all dry.

The drain pan is usually located closest to the floor - behind the kick space or toe space grill at the bottom of the fridge. Most often the water that collects in it is evaporated by the heat generated by the compressor and airflow from condenser fan located close to the pan.

Make sure the water is coming from the defrost drain hose - not from water sources elsewhere in the fridge (leaking water / melting ice into the fresh food compartment, etc.). If found, take action to correct.

Good luck!

Water shoots out of the grill at the top of the fridge compartment,as if its coming from the freezer compartment?Tried turning it off for 2 days, but after a day has started doing it again..do i need to set...

First how old is this unit? sounds like the water line from the filter to the ice maker is the problem, even if your model does not have an ice maker their is still that water line running to that area.

Water in bottom of refrigerator coming from freezer (not really sure of the exact model as I'm not home to double check).

If water appears on the floor in front of the refrigerator once or twice a day, it could be due to a clog in the defrost drain tube. The usual evidence of a clogged drain in a side-by-side refrigerator is ice under the bottom basket in the freezer compartment, in addition to a puddle of water on the floor. The ice maker doesnt work, and in the day several times appears water in the floor, in the side of the door of the ice maker

Uplug refrigerator and remove the ice maker so we can look at the tube that comes into the back of the ice maker. It maybe the ice maker is calling for water but ice or a crack in the tube that delivers the water is being deverted to inside the freezer area. Also look behind the fresh food compartment door and see if you can send me the model number so I will be able to go over the correct model. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

I have water pooling on my fridge trays and than turning into ice . The water seems to be coming from the vents. How do i get rid of that.

The freezer compartment has a drain hole behind the back wall inside the freezer compartment. The drain hole has probably rusted and has gotten larger. Carefully remove the icemaker and the screws from the back wall inside the freezer compartment. Lift the bottom of the back wall and look to see if the drain hole has gotten larger. You can make a small funnel from an aluminum can to fit over this area directing the water into the drain tube. It worked for me. good luck. Dave.

The ice maker in my whirlpool gold refrigerator Model No, GR2FHTXTBOO, is not working.

Hello jitkagardner,
Welcome

You said, The ice maker in my whirlpool gold refrigerator Model No, GR2FHTXTBOO, is not working.

How old is the fridge?
When have you last changed the water filter.
Should be down below at the front grille!
Try these tasks!

If the ice maker is not producing ice or not enough ice
Refrigerator connected to a water supply and the supply
shutoff valve turned on? Connect refrigerator to water
supply and turn water shutoff valve fully open.
• Kink in the water source line? A kink in the line can reduce
water flow. Straighten the water source line.
• Ice maker turned on? Make sure wire shutoff arm or switch
(depending on model) is in the ON position.
• New installation? Wait 24 hours after ice maker installation
for ice production to begin. Wait 72 hours for full ice
production.
• Freezer door closed completely? Firmly close the freezer
compartment door. If the freezer compartment door will not
close all the way, see "The doors will not close completely."
• Large amount of ice recently removed? Allow 24 hours for
ice maker to produce more ice.
• Ice cube jammed in the ice maker ejector arm?
Remove ice from the ejector arm with a plastic utensil.
• Water filter installed on the refrigerator? Remove filter and
operate ice maker. If ice volume improves, then the filter may
be clogged or incorrectly installed. Replace filter or reinstall it
correctly.
• Reverse osmosis water filtration system connected to
your cold water supply? This can decrease water pressure.

Let me know how it goes!

Ice Maker floods floor and freezer compartment

You may not have got the supply tube all the way into position so I would check this first. If the water is running down the back wall of the freezer compartment at a higher level than the icemaker the problem is not with the icemaker but with some break in the supply chain. If the water is overflowing from the icemaker then it could be the timer cycle on the icemaker or the water inlet solenoid valve at the back of the cabinet (compressor side). Water leaks need to be traced back to the highest point ( I know how obvious that sounds but sometimes we all miss the obvious). Hope this is of some help.
