I got my old D-Link Di624 out and reconnected. Now I need help!

The reconnection of my old D-Link DI 624 to my PC was easy and my PC still has internet connection but my new HP laptop (the reason to go wireless again) is a problem!  When I go to try to find a wireless connection on the laptop, I see a network with maximum strenght, which wasn't there before, so I am guessing that is my new wireless router, but when I go to connect it tells me it is security-enabled.  Maybe that's how I had it before??? Don't know, someone else did it for me. It's asking me for the network name... I don't remember it or any passwords, etc.  Any help anyone can give me would be great.

On one of the computer that has connection to the router, type 192.168.0.1 in the browser's address bar. The router's config page will come up. Since you're going to be using this page a lot, you might want to bookmark the page for easy access.

On the config page, select "HOME" tab and then select "WIRELESS" on the left column. Find Authentication: WPA-PSK and select that. Provide a "passphrase" and make sure you confirm it. It can be any phrase you want to use. Check apply and you're done setting up the router.

Now you have to setup your computer's to match exactly the same authentication. you should see all the available network. Select default network and then click on configure. In the authentication pull down menu list, select WPA-PSK, then select "authentication config". When the advanced security settings comes up, in the WPA PASSPHRASE field, type the PASSPHRASE you used earlier in the router's config. Hit OK and that's it for that page.

Now go back to the utility page and find profile in the middle column. you should see a "default" profile. Select that and click on "connect" on the right column. If you see a circle on the small icon just to the left of default, then you've secured your computer.

Basically, whatever you do to the router's config, you have to do exactly the same to the NIC's utility page. If it fails and you have to restore default on the router, there's a small hole in the back of the router. Press a small pin into it for 10 seconds and it will restore the default setting, that is, no security of any kind.

Please rate this a fixya.

You are trying it while hooked up with a wire to the router and not from a wireless computer right?

Because admin and blank should always work, but you have to be connect with a wired connection.

Router DI-624

You should not require any drivers to be able to connect to this router.

If you want to configure the router you can simply connect to the router using a cable and if it is factory default you should be able to access it using your browser http://192.168.0.1

You can find the emulator at http://support.dlink.com/emulators/di624/h_wizard.html

Need the 6 number pin for d link wireless dl 624

If you can reset the router back to factory settings(see below)
http://www.ehow.com/how_8417689_reset-dlink-di624-router.html
then you should be able to enter the default pin number inside the user's manual. Other than that, I'm not sure how you could retrieve it once it has been already set up.

Wireless router

No software is necessary for routers. Connect it by Ethernet cable to your PC, turn it on, open your web browser, and type in either:
  • 192.168.1.1
  • 192.168.1.254
  • 192.168.0.4
  • ..........254
Or check the manual for the right IP address. It will take you to the software page.

I have reinstalled an old D-Link DI 624 system on my PC. The router apparently has an old password and network name (that I don't remember) so I cant enter the network with my new lap top (which is the...

Resetting the router would clear the username and password. The you can go to 192.168.0.1 in your browser and set a new username and password.
D-Link Router reset
Step 1 Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the unit.
Step 2 With the unit powered on, press and hold the Reset button.
Step 3 Hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds.
Step 4 Release the Reset button.
Step 5 The unit will reboot. Allow 20-30 seconds before reconnecting.
Step 6 The device is now at factory defaults.
Note: Do not recycle power during the reset procedure. The default user name for most D-Link devices is admin and the password is left blank.
When it says hold for about 10 seconds, don't hold for more than ten seconds or the procedure will likely fail, if ten seconds doesn't work try 5 seconds.

The user manual is on this link:

I don't think your problem is firmware. Can you ping the router from your laptop?
