Smoke coming from lower base of vacuum cleaner

My husband cleaned out the filter and cleaned the rotating brush. When he tried to continue vacuuming, white smoke started coming out of the lower base of the machine and smelled like burning rubber. We have no idea what could have caused this because all he did was clean it as we normally do. We have only had the vacuum cleaner for a year and a half and Bissell won't do anything to help us because the warranty expired six months ago.

Make sure everything is dried off, I encountered the same symptoms once when I had some water remaining in the rotating brush after wiping the machine down.

How to open to clean

Hello! The dirt cup, filter and brushes need to be cleaned to ensure continued cleaning effectiveness. Below are steps for cleaning your Hoover Slider.

Turn switch to OFF position.

1. Press button and slide latch towards outside of cleaner. Rotate dirt cup toward back of cleaner.

2. While holding dirt cup, grasp filter frame and lift out filter. Empty dirt cup after every use. Dirt cup can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Allow to dry thoroughly.

3. Pull middle section of filter out of filter frame. To remove debris from filter, tap it on a hard surface or brush it with a soft brush.

4. Remove lint, strings, etc. from the brush roll located on the underneath side of the nozzle.

5. Replace the brush roll when the brushes do not touch the edge of a card as it is moved across the opening on the bottom of the nozzle.
Further disassembly of the cleaner is not recommended. Hope this helps!

Why does the brush continue to rotate on bare floor setting as well as using hose attachments?

Hello! The brush roll shut-off feature is on select models. Your vacuum may or may not have this feature. If it does not, the brushes will continue to rotate while hose is removed or in use and at all times while cleaner is on. The vacuum must be in the upright position to lift rotation brush off the carpet when cleaning above the floor. Be sure the vacuum does not tilt forward when doing above floor cleaning. Hope this was helpful!

Trying to change the belt

things you will need Vacuum belt
  • Screwdriver
  1. Locate and purchase the correct belt for your Eureka vacuum cleaner from the local grocery or department store. Vacuum belts come in different sizes according to your model of vacuum. Check your owner's manual or the vacuum itself for your model number.

  2. Turn your vacuum cleaner over so that the bottom of the unit is facing you. Remove the cover plate from the bottom by undoing the screws that are holding it in place with a screwdriver.

  3. Locate the belt pulley rod near the back of the vacuum base coming out of the motor. With the vacuum cleaner base turned upside down and facing you, the motor and pulley rod should be up near the top of the base.

  4. Slide the vacuum brush roller out of the slots at the bottom of the vacuum base and remove the old belt from the brush roller and pulley rod. With the brush roller off of the unit, clean the brush by removing any strings or cords wrapped around the tube.

  5. Install the new belt by looping it over the belt pulley rod next to the motor and then looping around the end of the brush roller in the belt slot. Hold the brush roller and pull back on it to tighten the belt while you slide the roller back into the slots on the vacuum base.

  6. Replace the base cover plate by snapping it back into place and securing it with screws. Turn vacuum back upright and turn it on to test the belt and verify the unit is working

The brushes do not rotate when cleaning carpet. Is in carpet clean mode and will not rotate. I did clear the filter underneath.

(1) Assure the Brush Control on the hood is NOT set to the OFF position.
(2) Remove the brush assembly by pulling/unlatching it from base on each side.
(3)Does one of the brushes have the drive pin present? It should be about ¼ inch square, and two inches long. It attaches the brushes to the drive mechanism

How do you change the belt on a f7441-980 hoover carpet cleaner

There are no belts on the SteamVac series. If you have a brush rotation problem, please check this:
(1) Assure the Brush Control on the hood is NOT set to the OFF position.
(2) Remove the brush assembly by pulling/unlatching it from base on each side.
(3) Does one of the brushes have the drive pin present? It should be about ¼ inch square, and two inches long. It attaches the brushes to the drive mechanism.
(4)Remove and clean the intake filter. One the base of the cleaner, behind the brushes, squeeze the two red abs together and pull the panel down to access the screen. Clean the hair/debris off the screen

No suction from base or hose attachment

Hi,
I had the same problem with my Eureka vacuum cleaner. I don't have the problem with the beater bar, but I had the problem with the attachment hose not getting any suction. I found out that I was putting attachment on the wrong end of the hose. The end that you use in the front. Don't how I got that confused because it always worked before. Hope this helps with the hose part of the problem.

Brushes not spinning

I cleaned filter and the brushes are still not rotating.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It probably is not the filter that will start the brushes turning again, it may be a few other things. There is a switch in the front that indicates brushes on and brushes off, and the switch could be broken, it could be that the brushes come in an assembly and the assm could be belt driven and you would have to replace the belt or the drive mechanism the turns the brushes is broken. These are just suggestions and you should check the schematic in your owner’s manual under trouble shooting. If you don’t have a owner’s manual, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Dyson DC07 Original won't pick up at base

Hi,

Lie machine on its side pull back handle as if vacuuming & switch on (KEEP YOUR FINGERS & ANY LOOSE CLOTHING CLEAR OF BRUSH ROLLER)

Brush should spin if it doesnt ensure clutch control knob on side of machine is in drive position if it isnt rotate knob by hand to drive brush should now spin.

If it doesnt & your machine has A clutch either clutch will need replacing or belts will need replacing.

Manuals are available to replace belts & remove the clutch from this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/index.htm
