HP PSC 1350v Check Print Cartridge Light

I have had this printer for about two years now. I havent used it much. A few months ago after normal use I kept recieving errors (check print cartridge) so I bought a new black cartridge and the light stopped blinking and I was able to print for a little while longer (about 20-40 pages). Then the (check print cartridge) started blinking again so I bought a black cartridge (office depot brand). After installing the new black cartridge the light would go off and I could print a few pages before the light came back on. I exchanged the cartridge at office depot for another and tried it again... still after a few pages the (check print cartridge) like blinks. now for about a month or so the printer has been unpluged and unpowered. I tried installing it on my new laptop today to see if i could get it to work this time. I was excited to see it working.. just needed to run a nozzle clean. Then after 3 pages the damn light comes back on. I have tried to do what HP calls a "reset" (hold power & page size button after powerup) but nothing seems to work. I dont want to put any more money into cartridges if this is defective... right now both cartridges are new.. the color is an hp one and the black is office depot (but still has hp stamped on bottom).

hey WiseWoman that makes alot of sense. I will check the dates when I get home, but how would the printer know what day or year it is if I dont have it hooked up to a computer? Is there a pin I can short to reset the printer.. maybe its keeping the date in memory using a watch battery (which would explan why it worked for a few pages after having it unplugged for a few months).  please let me know what you think..

    Thanks

    Adam:)

you know, I am having a similar problem- out of the blue, my printer -hp psc 1350v all-in-one-- started flashing the 'check print cartridge' light at me-- diagnostic says 'color cart. malfunction'. went to the HP help, did all of the stuff they told me to, and yet no go. as wisewoman suggested, I turned back the time on my computer, and plenty of 'playing' with it- -no luck. the date on the cart. is less than 6 mo. ago- hmmm.. any more ideas? Where is that watch battery located? Must have to dis-assemble the unit to get to it--I have used this unit almost daily- 2,3 sheets- as long as I have had it. @ 4 yrs. Can't be worn out- I hate to buy another cart. when I have 2 now that have full weights, etc of ink. why pay $35.00 for a new HP cart., when I can get a new unit for @ 110.00- but not an all-in-one-- an HP office jet--

    thanx

Check the date on your ink cartridge.  I bet it has expired. If you put in a "new"cartridge but it is even an HP one with an older date, it may not work.
I had my printer stop in the middle of a print job.  It was printing fine and suddenly would not print.  So I refilled the cartridge with an ink kit I had on hand and reinserted it--no go!  Then I opened a remanufactured cartridge (office depot) I had bought some time ago and inserted it.  No go, despite the fact I could see ink coming from the jets.  I finally gave up and bought a new HP ink cartridge, and it worked just fine.  But it bugged me why the new one would work and the other two that seemed just fine would not.

Later I learned that HP has a chip that reads the expiration date on the cartridges and that is what keeps those old ones from printing.  I found one trick of setting my date on my computer back to a year earlier than the exp date on the cartridge.  I saw the date on the remanufactured one I had tried earlier was 2005, so I set my computer date to today date but year 2004.  After forcing me to do print alignments several times and take the remanufactured cartridge out and put it back, I got it to print just fine.  And that 2005 cartridge that would not work earlier is what I am printing with right now.
Be advised, though, if you try the date setback, that HP printer will buck and try every way to not let you use that old cartridge.  You must say no to reflashing if HP tries to pull that on you.  And you will take out and put back that same cartridge multiple times and keep printing alignment sheets 3 or 4 times before you are successful.  But, if you persist, you can get it to work.

Adam, you are right about the watch battery. HP has one in the left front area. If you can get into your machine and find it, you can remove it for an hour or so (as some who have done this have recommended, especially if the date setback does not work or you do not want to fool with the date). I have also been told that the machine remembers the last 3 or so cartridges in some cases, so some have gone to rotating 3 that they refilled. But if any are past the exp date, the date and/or the battery still have to be dealt with.

    To nové,

You have to buy only the color or the black cartridge that the machine indicates as the problem, not necessarily both. I know I did not really like having to buy another HP cartridge when the original one I refilled and the office depot remanufactured one did not work--I did not know then if it was the cartridges or the printer that was the problem. If the printer works without a problem when you put the brand new "in-date" cartridge in, then you know it was most likely balking at the date.

You can refill your old cartridge yourself and save it for next time if you have a refill clamp to set it in. Or take it to the store and exchange for a remanufactured one or let them refill it.

That office depot one I am using now sat for nearly a year until the new cartridge ran out of ink. I did not throw it away because I did not think there was anything wrong with it. I saved it in its clamp in a plastic bag. I steamed it over (NOT IN) a 1/4 cup of water heated in the microwave until I saw ink flow from the jets. Then I put it in and went through the process I described above.

If you don't want to buy another cartridge, try the date setback first with your existing cartridges. Pick a year earlier than the oldest date on either cartridge. Or, if you want to take out the battery, do that. You may still have to insert, remove, print alignment sheets many times, but I'll bet you can make it work.

Hello Mindy,

The problem you are facing may be due to cartridge miss alignment.

My HP PSC 1350v prints a test page every time I turn on the printer?

Bet you recently replaced a print cartridge!

That model of printer recalibrates after any cartridge replacement.

Let one of those sheets print out in full. Read what is on the sheet. Place the sheet on the scanner
and press the button that the sheet indicated to be pressed. The printer will go through a alignment
cycle then quit. Once that is finished you should not have to do anything till the next time your change

I've had this machine for few years with few problems until just recently. The problem is that the ''check print cartridge'' comes on repeatedly. When I press ON/Resume it either shuts down or the check...

Hi,
Unplug the power cord from the unit.

Reconnect the power cord into the unit.

When the lights begin to flash, press and hold the On/Resume and Paper Size buttons.

When only the On/Resume light is flashing, release the buttons.

When the On/Resume light is steady, the reset is complete.

Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue.
Hope this helps

Richard.

HP psc 1315v (printer, scanner, copier) Will not print

The test page printing out every time it gets turned on is the printer's way of telling you it wants to be calibrated. Lay the test page on the scanner (follow the pictures on the test page) and scan it in. This should fix that problem and the "occasionally after waiting, something prints" problem.

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to the "E" on the display or check printer cartridge light. Hope this helps!
