Skytech 3001 won't work

I have a Skytech 3001 gas fireplace control that suddenly quit. The batteries are good and the receiver beeps in response to the remote. But the receiver won't turn the stove on even using the manual slide switch on the receiver. The wires to the receiver are good. I can't see the wires inside the stove, but there is no reason to think they are a problem. The stove turns on if I turn the stove's control knob to on. The problem is either the receiver, the wires, or whatever the wires connect to inside the stove. And since the stove itself will turn on, I doubt it is something in the stove. My next step is to pull apart the stove to check that the internal wiring is connected, but again I have no reason to think it isn't. That leaves the receiver. It is quite a few years old. Do they just suddenly quit? Any way to test it directly?

SOURCE: skytech model no. sky-3001 changed batteries in

You have to get the remote and transceiver to talk to each other. Remove all the batteries and wait a couple of minutes
before replaceing them. Place the transceiver in the REMOTE
position, press and hold down the LEARN button, and then
press the MODE button on the remote control. A change in the
beep tone will be heard and you have MARRIED the two devices. Should solve the problem.

Remote won't work unless next to fireplace.

There are some adjustments that can be made to improve the reception of the Skytech 3301 Fireplace Remote.
Sometimes the RF reception can be diminished if the receiver is in an enclosed metal surround such as a heat shield.
The link above will bring you to the product page where you can scroll down and download the full owner's manual. An excerpt from the manual in regards to adjusting the reception is below:

"RECEIVER ADJUSTMENT - RECOMMENDED ADJUSTMENT
NOTE: The slide button, Gray or Black, covers the ADJ access hole when installed.
A. To adjust at the receiver, use a small slotted screwdriver. Turn the adjustment screw counter-clockwise
about 5 degrees or a maximum of 1/8 turn. This should correct the distance problem.
B. If that does not correct the problem, return adjustment screw to original position and then turn adjustment
screw clockwise.
This adjustment is like tuning your radio. If you keep turning the adjustment screw, in either direction, you will go past the proper setting (tuning)."

Skytech receiver batteries keep going dead

Joe,

The heat from the fireplace can have an adverse effect on the life of the batteries. Sometimes simply re-positioning the receiver to a cooler location under the firebox and/or adding a heat-shield can improve battery performance with the Skytech remote receivers.
As a test, you could even place the receiver outside the fireplace for a period of time to gauge the effect of heat on the unit.

According to the owner's manual for the Skytech 3301 Thermostat Remote:

"For REMOTE RECEIVERS that operate on BATTERY POWER, these heat conditions can cause batteries to discharge when temperatures exceed 115 degrees F. Studies show that alkaline batteries, when exposed to a constant temperature of 120 degrees F, can lose up to 50% of their operating power. When the battery cools down, it will partially recharge itself, but constant heating and cooling will reduce the battery's normal life expectancy."

Hope this helps!

I have a 5301. Connected last year, worked fine. Installed new batteries, connects and beeps, but fireplace won't light. All controls are in correct position.

I know it seems obvious, but sometimes over the summer people shut off their pilot light, and when relighting forget to move the pilot knob back to the "on" position after the pilot is going - check this first.
Next, you can slide the switch on the Skytech 5301 receiver from "remote" to "on" and verify that it lights the burner. If it does, you may need to re-sync the remote to the receiver. If it does not, check to make sure your wires are nice and tight on the TH & TP/TH connections of the valve.
If you are still having trouble, Skytech has a toll-free hotline for tech support on the 5301. It is: 1-888-672-8929 8am-5pm EST.

Skytech 1410 fireplace remote (8 yrs. old) has stopped working. Replaced batteries in the transmitter. The red light lights up when

It may need to be re-synchronized:

Make sure the receiver's slide switch is in the REMOTE position.
Press and release the LEARN button on the receiver.
When you hear the "Beep", press and hold the ON or OFF button for about 2 seconds on the transmitter.
You will then hear a series of beeps that indicate that your new transmitter has been accepted by the receiver.
If you press the LEARN button on the receiver and you hear no beeps, the receiver is unable to retain any more transmitter codes
(make sure the transmitter battery is properly installed and fully charged).
To delete all of the transmitter codes on your receiver, press and hold the LEARN button for 10 seconds. Then you will hear a
series of beeps, indicating that the receiver's memory has been cleared.

It could also be dead after 8 years. A new unit can be purchased here: Skytech Remotes. I would even suggest on of the new styles with a built in timer or thermostat.

Receiver was beeping all the time. I changed batteries in receiver, and now remote does not control fireplace. Remote appears to be working fine. If I move switch to on instead of remote on receiver, it...

If you changed the batteries in the receiver (the black box in the fireplace). You should also change the 2-batteries in the hand-held remote. This may sound stupid, but it's not ... be sure all the batteries in the receiver (black box) are all facing the proper direction. Believe me, it's easy to get one turned the wrong direction. Also, make sure that the slide switch is in fact in the remote position. It can be finicky at times. Also, check to make sure that the two wires are still connected firmly at the gas fireplace Control Valve and in the receiver.

  • Now, if all of that doesn't solve your problem, the receiver may have lost it's code..
When matching security codes, be sure slide button on the receiver is in the REMOTE position; the code will NOT "LEARN" if the slide switch
is in the ON or OFF position. Program the remote receiver to LEARN a new security code by pushing in the LEARN button on the top of the
remote receiver and then pressing the MODE button on the transmitter. A change in the beeping pattern, at the receiver, indicates the
transmitter's code has been programmed into the receiver.

There's a lot to check out and do, but that's how you trouble shoot these remotes.

Receiver was beeping... Jiggled it ... Stopped beeping... Now not working ...tried to reset transmitter with receiver but will not work .... Did replace batteries and recharged receiver as well ... Remote...

There's no quick answer to your problem, as it may be your gas fireplace that's causing the problem. If you still have your Owners Installation Manual look at page # 7 (Trouble Shooting), this should help you solve your problem. If you don't have your Owners Manual, you can download it online from SkyTech's website. If all else fails contact SkyTech's Technical Service Dept @ 888-672-8929

My remote won't control the fireplace. Do you have to program it

Normally, it comes programed. Before trying to reprogram it ...First, be sure you have the leads from the black receiver box connected to the proper terminals on the control valve of your gas fireplace. Secondly, be sure ALL the batteries are installed properly (i.e. facing the right direction). Do you get a beep when you press the Mode button on the hand held remote? If you do, the problem is some where else.

If you gas fireplace has a rocker switch in the control compartment that was used to turn the burner on and off ... Is it a 2 position switch or a 3 position switch? If it's a 2 position switch, be sure it's in the ON position. If it's a 3 position switch, it should be in the middle position. Is the gas control valve knob turned from Pilot to the ON position? Is your Pilot Light burning? It has to be for the remote control to work.

To test the whether or not the remote is connected properly, push the slide switch on the front of the black receiver box to the ON position. If you pilot is burning and the control knob for the burner is in the ON position, the burner should then light. If it doesn't then I suspect the wiring from the black receiver box to the control valve is not connected to the proper terminals. Or a rocker switch is in the wrong position. If all this fails contact SkyTech Technical Service @ 888-672-8929.
