Is the Sanyo DS27930 27" TV a "digital" TV.

The cable company wants to add converter boxes to all "non digital" TV's & I'm not sure if this qualifies as digital or not. It is a flat screen but not flat panel, about 8-10 yrs old...?

SOURCE: Sanyo DS31590 and converter box

I just checked the owners manual online. Looks like this model only has an NTSC analog tuner. No ATSC digital tuner built in.

If you use cable or satellite TV services, the digital converters won't help you. The coupon-eligible ones are strictly for use with a traditional antenna. If this is your situation, ignore the remainder of this message.

If you use a regular TV antenna with this TV, then, yes, you will need a converter box. FYI, the Insignia model at Best Buy and the Zenith at Circuit City, and elsewhere (radio shack) have gotten good reviews from early purchasers. More converter box models will be available in a few months time.

If your current reception with your antenna is poor (snowy), you may have problems receiving the new DTV signals. If not, you should be pleasantly surprised with the quality of the DTV signals - and the extra "virtual" channels. Try the converter box using the RCA video and audio inputs, for a slightly better picture than with the coaxial cable inputs.

Good Luck

If you have cable TV, satellite TV, or FIOS, the coupon eligible converter boxes aren't needed and aren't useful with those services.
They gov't coupon converter boxes are only good for reception with a regular TV antenna or rabbit ears.

According to the specs on epinions.com, no, this TV does not have a digital tuner. So, if you use a rooftop TV antenna (not satellite dish) or an indoor TV antenna, you WILL need an ATSC to NTSC converter box. You need not wait until next year, however, as most U.S. TV stations are also broadcasting digital (ATSC) now.

SOURCE: digital ready?

Sanyo's customer service responded that this TV is not digital. If it's connected to an antenna, you will need to purchase a Digital to Analog converter box.

SOURCE: trouble receiving local channels on TV using new Magnavox converter box

Your digital converter box probably does not have an analog pass through that allows the old analog channels to go through to the tv's analog tuner.

SOURCE: program an old sanyo tv

You need to go into the menu and set it for cable insted of air/tv. The television is only getting the 2 - 13 because on that setting, its as high as it goes.

If your TV has the screw-on coaxial cable connection on the back, then you will not need a converter box. You can attach an internal or external antenna and have your TV scan for digital channels. The converter boxes are mostly for old CRT TVs with analog tuners or newer home theater "monitor" TVs which are being produced without built in tuners.

61A61 TV IS WILL ONLY PICK UP ONE CHANNEL #66 AND NOT CABLE INPUT

Cable companies are slowly but surely reducing the channels you can get without a digital box, which they will supply. You will need to cantact them and rent a HD cable box or converter from them that will work with your displays built-in tuner. However, if your display is HD compatible, then I would just asked your cable company for and non-DVR HD cabe box and connect it to your display with component cables....

Hooking actual live coaxial from Cable Co. to Insignia Converter Box ...

Based on the specs that I have read I am going to say you cannot hook up cable to the converter. Best thing to do would be to call cable company that provides service there and see if it was turned off on the billing side they probably just didn't come out and disconnect from the pole. That might give you service but missing some features such as tv guide channel. Now some tv's have tv guide built into them and maybe in the move that feature on the tv was turned off it they were using it that way before. Here is what the specs say about that converter:

Use this digital-to-analog converter to convert digital TV broadcast signals to analog signals on analog TVs with antenna-based reception.

DTV and me

It only has the NTSC tuner. To recieve HD signals, you need to add a converter box.

Most cable and satellite companies by arrangement with the FCC still should work with the analog sets using their converter box without the need for a digital converter.

If all else fails, they do make for a nice computer monitor.

Is this a digital television? will i need a digital box with my television in 2009 ?

The "DTV ANSWERS" website says that any TV made since 2004, has a built-in digital tuner and will not require a digital converter box. If you currently receive your TV signals from your cable, satellite, or phone company, you won't need a converter box, even if you have an older non-digital TV. Only people with TVs made before 2004, will need to purchase a converter box, if they don't use TV signals from cable, satellite, or phone companies.
You might want to visit the RCA website, to see if they have a phone number to call, for any additional questions.

Sanyo vcr mod 900 does not play cable tv stations above channel 13

Check your set-up screen for something like a choice of HRC, IRC. Those are the different cable standards. Select one, and if that doesn't work, try the other. Of course if you have digital cable-you are out of luck and must use the cable companies converter box- and there is no way around that box.
