Pc does not start after boot screen

My PC does not run Ahead after the BOOT SCREEN.... It simply shows a cursor and nothing else.... PLZZZZ HELP!!!!!

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

That means your computer has passed the POST, then handed the process off to your boot device to load your operating system, then stopped.

Your boot device is no longer loading the operating system. If that is your hard drive there are a couple ways to attempt to repair it. I suggest you back up any critical data on the drive first. Put your Windows XP cd in your cd drive and set your BIOS to boot from cd. Then when you get to the Windows repair console type fixmbr. After that finishes set your BIOS to boot from your hard drive again and see what happens.

To fix a Windows PC that won't turn on, first try ruling out a faulty power supply or outlet. You can also try checking for beep codes, display issues, unusual BIOS settings, or troubleshooting the PC in Safe Mode. Other fixes include disconnecting non-essential devices and checking for loose components and malware.

Have you tried to use ESC key to enter manual boot? Manual boot allows you to choose the right boot device, then RETURN should initiate the boot and system shoud function properly.
I have the similar problem and try to find the original reason. My system works perfect but needs to start ever time with this additional odd procedure.

Emachine EL-1200 shows flashing dash cursor top left of screen

If this is all you get after the post screen, then your operating system has become corrupt or the hard drive is having issues in the boot sector. Reload windows from your installation CD. This will of course wipe out all your information, but the computer should run. If not then I would suspect a bad hard drive.

Hope this helps

Monitor comes up black i can see the cursor but nothing else any ideas? it boots normally but once past the boot screen its all black with just the cursor showing

Nevermind the more I thought about it, your not getting to the operating system. The PCs used to say something to the effect of 'operating system not found' after the POST if it could not find a boot device. I think that's what's happening here, you have to go into to BIOS and see if it can detect the hard drive. When the laptop boots look for a message saying 'press F1 for setup' or something along those lines... if it comes up too quick to see start hitting F1, Esc, Del keys right after the power lights comes on, BIOS is usually one of those keys. Once in BIOS look for a 'devices' type tab and search for where it reads the hard drive If there's nothing there then its your problem, and you need to get the BIOS to autodetect it. Respond if you have questions.

Need recovery **** for modle# w4885 it wont boot up , nothing but black screen and cursor flashes

When you go back to boot up, and you get to the Dell screen, can you please start tapping the F8 key, that should bring you to a start up menu, where start in Safe Mode is an option. If you can get there, please go to Start, Run, and type in sfc /scannow, exactly as shown, with a space between the c and the /, then hit Enter. If you have any missing or damaged system files this should repair them.

When this has completed, please go to Start, Run, and type in MSCONFIG, then hit Enter. On the General tab, click on Diagnostic Startup, then reboot the PC. If you can get to the log in screen, then one of your startup programs is causing the problem. If not we'll have to look for something else.

Is there any kind of error message other than getting to the black screen? Is the screen completely blank or is the cursor next to something, a letter, or symbol?
Hope this helps.

I have an acer aspire one that is stuck on the start up screen showing acer empowering people and it wont go past that screen. iwas told it is a software issue. is there a simple fix for this?

Does it boot into safe mode (Tap F8 key on booting)

If so then a driver is responsible. Simply boot into safe mode and type msconfig into start / run.

Tick everything except antivirus / spyware program.Reboot and tick the box that pops up.
