Question about Yamaha HTR-6130 Receiver

Yamaha HTR-6130 sound only from centre, rear or front speakers

I cannot get surround / 5.1 sound.

Sound from my Xbox 360, digital TV and DVD player will only come out of one of the following.

Either one of the following:

front speakers
centre speakers or
rear speakers

This depends on whether I press the A/B button on the yamaha receiver, this will alternate where sound comes from.

I have a new Samsung 40inch TV connected via optical cable to the 'DTV' in on the yamaha receiver.

I have the xbox 360 connected to the TV via HDMI input and an optical cable from the dongle on the xbox to the yamaha receiver 'CD' optical in.

I have a basic DVD player connected via RCA cables to the 'DVD' RCA in on the yamaha receiver.

All exhibit the same problems with the sound.

Any help would be appreciated....

Its not how there connected its in your settings. rehook up all your speaker connections properly,then make sure you proram the reciever to recieve fiber optic,hdmi,digital coax etc in the reciver.

TV/DVD surround sound through receiver
Try running digital audio from the source - cable/sat - to the receiver. The fewer intervening connections and entities, the better. TV's are NOT considered sound sources for high end purposes or we wouldn't have Yamaha HTR-5860's and better speakers, would we?

I have a yamaha 6130 receiver and cant get it to show all 5 speakers. It will only show front two speakers on dvds and tv. Any suggestions?
Sounds like a set-up problem.

How to hook up a xbox 360 console to my yamaha 6130 receiver
You will need an additional HDMI cord...you can get them without getting ripped off by purchasing at bluejeanscable.com.

Connect your HDMI out from the xbox to the receiver. Connect the additional HDMI cable to the "out" HDMI connection on the receiver and connect the other end of it to your TV.

No sound
I had the same problem on 3/21/09...I found it was the PS3 settings. I had to go into the visual settings (not sound) and change the linear sound to optic digital...but I also had to purchase a digital optical cable...plug everything into your tv instead of the receiver and then hook up the digital optical cable from your tv to the receiver. A it will work and b it is a better sound quality than that of the HDMI cable.

XBox 360 to Reciever to TV via HDMI no sound
I recently got the same receiver and had the same problem. Here's what I was told - and it worked for me:

Even though HDMI cables carry audio and video, for whatever reason this reciever won't accept audio through hdmi. Apparently only much more expensive recievers carry audio through hdmi. What you have to do is run optical audio cables from your xbox, cable box, dvd player or other video device to the optical inputs on the back of the reciver. Then you customize the scene buttons to match your video and audio inputs.

You can get these optical cables pretty cheap on line or even at target. Don't get ripped off by Best Buy for these cables. I love best buy, but they rip off on cables!

This receiver is great - once I got it all figured out and running right I've loved it! Hope everything works out for you!

Front left and right speakers don't put out sound
Hit the button  "speakers/a/b/off" on the left hand side of the front panel until it shows that "speakers b"  are turned on.

WE PURCHASED A YAHAMAHA HTR-6130 TODAY
You may need to set up the receiver for your speaker configuration. There should be a setup menu on the receiver, and that will allow you to tell the amp what speakers you are using, and what inputs you are connecting what devices to. You may also need to set your DVD player, cable box and TV for the audio stream you want to use. PCM or Bitstream to be more precise. Also make sure that the sound output is set to Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Digital and the input signal is in stereo or surround.

No sound from the speakers when we use DVD or XBox
Take the remote and press theDVD button. That will change the sound system from TV to your DVD. When you switch back to TV, dont forget to switch this back by pressing DTV/CBL white button

Yamaha HTR-6130 Front right and left speakers with no sound
As simple as this sounds, try hitting the speaker a/b button on the front of the unit, next to the headphone jack. I had the same problem, and was about to package the whole thing back up and go back to Best Buy when I hit this button and then the audio test worked.

1 front speaker and 1 surround speaker won't work on cable selection
theres probably a problem with the right channel cable or plug that connects the tv to the reciever, or the tv is set to mono audio.
