Setup: Panasonic LCD TV, ATT Uverse cable box/dvr (att uverse/cisco/ISB7500), Toshiba DR410 DVD player/recorder. Connections: The cable box and TV are connected by HDMI (HDMI-1 mode on TV). The DR410 is also connected to the TV with HDMI (HDMI-2). Cable box and DR410 connected by S-video, as well as red/white/yellow coax. If tv is in normal, everyday HDMI-1, the DR410 can be powered on but nothing can be accessed or changed. So naturally I use the tv on HDMI-2, where I am able to access and adjust the DR410 menus and settings. BUT IT WILL NOT RECORD! A giant error message appears "Cannot record in video mode." I've made too many adjustments to settings now, even reset to defaults, but still no difference. Bottom line is this thing won't record, and I cannot figure out to the correct settings to make it work. Please help me from square one!!

If you want HDMI 'Auto' mode (the factory default), you need a combination of selecting the proper output mode (use the remote's 'Progressive' button to toggle between the four output modes: HDMI, RCA VGA, component video out and s-video. Once you're in HDMI mode (the led's on the front of the box are a dead give-away!), then you can press the front panel 'HDMI Select' button to move through the five available HDMI settings: 480P, 720P, 1080i, 1080P and 'Auto'. You're in 'Auto' mode when all four led's are lit.

most dvr units froim cable and satellite companies use a type of copy protection that does not allow you to copy programs to a disc. the cable company wont tell you this but they do and there isnt any way to work around it
SOURCE: YOUR TV DOES NOT ALLOW DISPLAY OF THIS PROGRAM THROUGH THE DVI IN
I solved the same problem by disabling SIMPLINK from OPTIONS menu. I own the LG TV myself. The LG TV comes SIMPLINK "ON" as default setting from the factory. Go to MEMU -> OPTIONS -> Turn SIMPLINK to "OFF". This should work....
