I'm having the same problem as NWallace from May 17. My craftsman 1/2 hp garage door will only close if I hold the wall control down the entire time it is closing (and the light blinks the entire time). I think I have muliptle problems.
1. Only one door sensor lights up (and no matter how I adjust it, I can't get the second to light up).
2. The remote doesn't do anything. I replaced the batteries, and tried to reprogram several times, but still nothing. I'm considering buying a new remote.
My question is, shouldn't the remote work like the wall control (even if the sensors are screwed up - thus holding button down entire time on remote would open door with it too)? Or, must the door sensors be fixed before the remote will work.
Second question, the instructions on the garage door unit itself to reprogram the remote are different than the ones on the instructions on the remote itself? Why is that? Which should I use? (Neither has worked so far).
Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,

It could be the garage door motor that is acting up. Try closing it with the button in the garage. If that's not the case, you may need a different garage door opener.
The only thing that will cause the main light to flash 10 times and the door to reverse to the open position is a sensor problem. Make sure the light on each sensor is on and not flickering ever so slightly. Make sure they are not moving when the door starts to close. Lights on sensors should not blink. One light should stay on constantly and the other sensors light should go off when you block the sensors.
thanks w/d for getting right on my problem,my closer doesnt have lights at the bottom, it's a garage sale deal. works good otherwise exept I have to hold closer button on the wall to close.
The remotes use a receiver to actuate the door and the wall control does not. It sounds like your logic board is bad. Maybe a lightning storm recently? Try removing the board and look for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit.
If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not blinking.
If the small light in your wall control is blinking it is in the lock mode. Press and hold for 3 seconds the button with the icon of a lock. This will toggle the lock function off.
IF U HAVE TWO EYE,SENSORS ON EACH SIDE OF THE DOOR SEE IF SOMETHING IS BLOCKING THE EYES OR SOETHING IS COVERING THEM, OR THEY ARE OUT OF ALIGNMENT, ONE SHOULD SHOW GREEN, AND ONE RED EYE, GOOD LOCK
