In the Print dialog, go to 'Properties.' Screw around in there for a bit.

Have a label with colours of gray and black. Toshiba B-SX5T printer does not print the gray colour very well at all. Shoppy print of areas on the label that are gray. Printer issues?

You must either modify your graphics or try another driver ou driver options.
Take care that this printer only print black dots and the grey is obtained by not printing all the dots.
With some algorithms the grey color is not correctly interpreted.

Panasonic Printer prints wrong colour. The documents have grey letters, but the printer prints them black!

It is possible that printer setting is set to print in black and white instead of color. You will only be able to see the gray color when printer is set to print in color.
Assuming you are using windows 7 go to Devices and printers, right click on your printer, go to properties and change the settings.

For any further clarification feel free to revert.

Black is printing gray

Has your printer defaulted to 'draft' printing? That's where grey printing seems to come from.

Canon MX310 - print is gray instead black. How to fix it.

I wish someone would REALLY solve this, but I've found two (time-consuming!) workarounds:

1) Despite using plain paper, tell it you're using "Matte Photo Paper" (this is necessary in order to...) then set the print quality to the next-to-highest level (default is middle of five quality levels). The doc will print in black as it should, not grey.

2) Instead of the above, use the printer dialogue option to print to a PDF file; then open the pdf and print it. It will print in black, not grey!

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can I print a color picture without using a black catridge?

Black ink is an essential part of the printing process. The black color is only made by the black cartridge, the color cartridge does make "black".
One or more optional photo cartridges may be available, depending on your printer model.
  • Use the photo cartridge with a tri-color cartridge for best-quality color photos and graphics, and sepia or antique photos.
  • Choose a gray photo cartridge to print black and white photos with truer grays and richer blacks.

Prints grey not black

I solved this problem but probably not what the printer manufacturer would recommend! The reason you are just getting grey is that the black ink cartridge is either empty or dried out from non use and only the color cartridge is working. I had the same problem after being away for 5 months. I put the printer cartridge in a bowl of warm water to disolve the dried out ink on the print pad. I dried off the cartridge with a soft cloth and then it worked perfectly.

Print Color

You probably need to check a few things:
a) What ink cartridges have you installed? You can get a cartridge that's just grey ink.
b) What printer settings have you set up on your PC? If you're only printing in greyscale, this could be the problem. You need to set it to colour printing.

Changed color ink cartridge and prints in gray

Does it give the self test from the menu also in grey ?? if yes then then either the print carriage assembly has aproblem or the main board in that order.

If it prints fine in the self test then check the colour option in the printing preferences of the printer driver, they might be set inccorectly. Please correct them/
