Maytag Washer/Dryer Model LSG7806AAE The gas dryer has 3 separate drying cycles on its timer dial: IntelliDry (Auto-sensing drying cycle), Permanent Press & Timed Dry. Unit is ~ 10 years old. Everything working fine until ~ 2 months ago, when the IntelliDry & Permanent Press cycles stopped working. IntelliDry cycle would never stop. Permanent Press cycle left load still damp. But Timed Dry was still working. ~ 2 weeks agot, the Time Dry cycle stopped working (after a 40 minute run time, a regular sized lot would still be damp). Repair person arrived, said Radiant Sensor had died & replaced it. Also indicated that the timer itself was working correctly. However, all 3 problem still remain - none of the 3 cycles are drying a regular sized load. What are most likely root causes of this problem?

    Hi Peter,

    So... you called the repair guy because the 40 min run time left the clothes still damp, right? And he replaced the sensor. Did the dryer work (heat) after that, or what? Before you called him, was the dryer "heating but not drying the clothes"? <--- I get service calls like that all the time.

    I've been repairing appliances for years and what you're describing screams "IMPROPER VENTILATION" to me.

    Write back and we'll figure this out.

Clean the lint filter(s) and verify unobstructed dryer exhaust. 99% of the time the dryer exhaust is clogged.

SOURCE: Only heats on timed drying

Our Kenmore dryer had the same sort of problem (different catchy names.

Problem was that in "smart" modes (by what ever name, the timer motor runs in series with a "dampness" sensor (thermostat, actually, I think) and A RESISTOR.

Resistor burns out--this is the symptom set.

SOURCE: i have a maytag intellidry dryer and when finished

Check the ventilation for lint. You may need to replace the duct vents if you have any. The lint tends to build up and prevent the dryer igniter from staying on thus the clothes do not dry all the way.

SOURCE: kenmore 90 series dryer leaves clothes damp.

Sounds like a venting problem at the house pipe.
Make sure the house venting pipe is completely clean and vent hood just outside is free of any blockages.
If all that is cleaned I would check all working thermostats and high limit thermostat as well.
GOOD LUCK!

SOURCE: intellidry cycles inoperative, regular timed cycle

Howdy: It seems the "smart switch settings" has died. It is in the switching circuit. It all comes in one unit. Take it out and have it tested at an appliance store. Good luck - Doug

Whirlpool gas dryer (WGD9450WR1) not drying on auto-cycles

try cleaning the 2 silver senser bars located inside the dryer drum on the door side with isopropyl alcohol and lint free wipes,these bars sense moisture and control timer speed,and when they get coated with the chemicals in dryer sheets they become coated and can no longer sense the damp clothes (these sensers use capacitance to sense moisture)

I have a 5 year old Whirlpool Electric Dryer, Model #LER7648KT2. The Dryer won't start. I have checked the door switch, start button switch and visible thermo switches or thermostats with an ohm meter...

There are usually 2 thermal fuses in dryer circuits. One is on the heater housing and will blow in an overtemp condition around 310-350F.
The other is on the blower or exhaust housing and will blow around 200F
Make absolutely sure the 2nd one is continuous and not intermittently functional. This will definitely stop the motor from functioning

Below is a diagram for an older model (LER4634). Your dryer has some additional terminals probably because it has additional drying cycle options.

The diagram may be more readable when copied and pasted into a plain text editor such as Notepad or another editor with non-proportional fonts

Switch Terminals
|TM |TM |BK |BK |BK |
|WB |OR |BU |BU |R |
|-- |-- |V |-- |-- |
|---|---|---|---|---|
|O |X |O |X |X |Auto - High Heat
|O |X |X |X |X |Auto - Low Heat
|---|---|---|---|---|
|<> |<> |~ |X |O |Cool Down / Fluff
|O |X |O |O |O |End of Cycle
|---|---|---|---|---|
|X |O |O |X |X |Timed - High Heat
|X |O |X |X |X |Timed - Low Heat
|---|---|---|---|---|

Legend:
O = Open (Infinite Resistance)
X = Closed (Continuous)
<> = Either (But not Both)
~ = Doesn't Matter
NA = Not Applicable

Switch Terminals:

TM - Timer Motor (Different Models may use different colors)
WB - Black/White
OR - Orange
BK - Black
BU - Blue
V - Violet/Purple
R - Red

Example: For the Auto - High Heat Dry cycle, the following terminals are continuous:
Terminals
<TM - OR>
<BK - BU>
<BK - R>
(of course since BK-BU is continuous and BK-R is continuous, then BU-R is also continuous.

This should allow you to test at least some of the cycles your timer switch has

I have a general schematic in PDF for whirlpool for gas and electric, but did not see an option to add an attachment to this message.

Hope this helps or point you in the right direction.

Maytag Dryer has lost heat...

I would think the timer is not used but a humidifier when on auto dry mode. Check the humidistat, should be either make or break contacts, open or closed.
