If you cannot remember your lock code, you will need to restore your device as new or be able to restore a backup if you cannot remember your lock code.
If you do remember your lock code you can update it in the settings app:
Click on Settings and then scroll down to the Passcode option (you may have to scroll down a bit). This will bring you to the Passcode Lock menu where you can turn off or update your lock code.
The solution to this problem will result on the deletion of all data. Turn off your iPad, then, connect your iPad to your computer while pressing and holding the home button. Let go of the home button when your iPad says, "Connect to iTunes," and then restore using iTunes.
Erase and restore
If you can't remember your passcode, you'll need to erase your device, then use a backup (if you have)to put your data and settings back on your device.
-connect the iPad to a computer with installed iTunes software: iTunes
If you've synced your device before with iTunes, you can restore your device.
Connect the device to the computer you normally sync with.
Open iTunes. If iTunes asks you to enter your passcode use recovery mode. (Click the link to be taken to the steps.)
iTunes will automatically sync your device and create a backup. If it doesn't, sync the device with iTunes.
If your son cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your iPad using the computer you last synced your iPad with. Using the last computer you synced with allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync all your data, apps, etc.
To begin the process, connect the iPad to your computer using the USB cable or lightning cable. Open iTunes and select the restore option.
If you restore on another computer, you can still unlock the device and remove the passcode, but your data and apps will be wiped.
plug it into the original computer that you set it up with and
through itunes you will be able to reset
it. Once the ipod appears under devices click on the restore button it
will indicate that you can restore settings etc. If it is not the
original computer that you are using you will
be able to reset it but will lose the information on it. Hope this helps.
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
Unfortunately, you're a bit stuck. The only way of removing a passcode without knowing it is to restore from an iPad backup when the passcode wasn't applied.
My advice would be to take it to an Apple Store, and explain the situation. They're always very helpful, and may be able to do something about it.
Hope that helped!
