Yes, unfortunately that happens quite a bit, Some companies will discontinue bands for some of their best sellers... Best way is to get ahold of the company and send them the numbers on the watch and they can send you another band.

The "gizmo" would be the pin that attaches the watch to the case. You can easily purchase a replacement pin or strap at any store that has watches (even Wal-Mart). These are very inexpensive and each one will cost you less than $10.

You are right in that a stainless steel alternative is not typically thought of for this style of watch. The trick here will be finding someone who will customize head pieces that will fit the watch. There are a lot of talented craftsmen out there that can do this depending on where you are. I would start with the repair center for Precision Time.
