0ne of the surface units does not heat. Frigidaire Electric Range

Frigidaire Electric Range, works normally except one of the surface units does not heat.

Problem started when turning on one surface element (the large 8” element in the back left side as one faces the range). Heard a pop and saw a spark between the element terminal end and the terminal plug. Turned off. All other surface elements are working and heat can be controled. Both ovens are working and can control heat. Digital control panel is functional.

The surface element that sparked was damaged and the wiring near the terminal plug looked discolored and burnt. Surface element would not heat up.

Installed new terminal plug and surface element. Surface element would not heat up. Tested new surface element by switching it to the working terminal and it works.

Attempted again. Element did heat up on low #1 setting, moved it to high and got red hot. Lowered #3 and element seemed to stay red hot. Turned on another element to determined how long it should take to cool down. As soon as I did that the problem element began to cool. Turned both elements off and let completely cool.

Third attempt (an hour later). Turned heat to #3 setting nothing happened.

Any suggestions?

HI, UNPLUG the oven. MOST model have a rear access panel behind the control panel. Remove the screws holding the panel on and you should be able to see the switxhes. Take the knob off the bad switch and there is two screws holding it on. Let me know.

Not heating to temperature

The most likely suspect is your thermostat! If the unit heats up then normally the heating element is working.

The next item would be the oven switch.

Extreme heat is coming out of the surface coil element openings when thew oven is on. I have a free standing electric range. thanks for your tips...

This sounds normal. Many electricranges have a small pipe that acts as a vent just under the top surface, sometimes right under one of the surface coils, or "eyes".

Richard, sounds like you did all the pretests. You'll need a new display panel. When you work on it, be sure to cut the power.
