As you may or may not know but the Bose Companion 3 Series II comes with a controller that sits by itself. If it's muted then the light is orange, when not muted it is green. A few months ago the light won't come on at all, everything is plugged in correctly. I even tried unplugging and re-plugging things back in but nothing worked. I don't know if there is a problem in which I'm not observant to.

My puppy chewed through the cord for my a/c adapter, I just took the speakers into Circuit City, and they found me a workable replacement (the replacement isn't BOSE, but it works just fine). Hope that helps!

Yes. The companion 3 system can be repaired for $75. Call Bose at 800-367-4008. They will also give you a new 1 year warranty.

The speakers seem to be muted by default - you'll see that the LED is yellow/amber. Tap the control pod - the LED will turn green and speakers will work. I felt like such an idiot after I spent almost an hour trying to figure this out. (This feature should be more prominent in the manual.)
SOURCE: Loud hum when Bose Companion 3 Series II speakers are turned on.
I had the same problem for many months. I asked a sound & video professional and he suggested I move the subwoofer away from any power source. I had the subwoofer next to my UPS. Once separated and moved all wiring away from the power supply (about 12") the low bass hum was practically gone.
SOURCE: Control Pod for Bose Companion 5 speaker system
I had the same problem right out of the gate, the volume dial on my control pod for my Companion 5 wasn't working, however, the touch pad and LED worked. I called Bose customer service and was instructed to:
First, unplug the power directly at the back of the woofer while the unit was on;
Next, I was instructed to unplug the control pod, visually inspect for any damage/defect;
Finally, re-seat the control pod on the back of the woofer and then lastly plug the power cable back into the woofer.
It worked like a charm. I hope this is helpful!
