Switching on problem Goodmans tvc201t

Pressing the power on button, a continous ticking sound is heard. Upon pressing the button again, the standby light flashes once and the tv is dead.I am unable to turn on my TV unless I disconnect it from the power source and then reconnect, after that it works fine.

The TV is on protection.

Protection is a special diagnostic mode that will keep the TV in standby as an internal fault had been detected.

The clicking noise is the protection switch that keeps turning the TV off to prevent further damage.

The fact that TV restarts after unplugging lets think to a fault on power supply board inside TV.

When you unplug TV you discharge PSU capacitors, and that is the reason why the TV restarts afterward

First test the unit on a different socket. If you are using a surge protector, remove it.

Try also leaving the TV unplugged for a longer time, let say several hours.

Also unplug all connected device, and leave only the aerial cable, a defective receiver box or DVD can cause the same problem.

If that does not solve the problem, then the TV is faulty, probably a defective PSU (power supply) board. The part must be tested before replacement.

In this case, locate any good qualified repairer.

SOURCE: switching on problem Goodmans tvc201t

We had the same television and when it came on after a power cut it just did this clicking thing. We rang up but we were told it would be too expensive to fix. It got chucked.

However, coincidentally, we happened to be given another television of the same model by someone who was moving abroad. The same thing happened when it was unplugged from the mains while on stand-by. Having seen the half-solution above, I tried pressing the on button on the remote but it just kept clicking away. I tried various buttons, including ones on the television itself. Eventually after much button pressing, it made the initial noise like it was about to fire up but then went back into clicking mode. But by keeping on pressing buttons, it seemed to make more and more of an effort to turn on, which eventually it did.

As it happens, the final button pressed was on the remote control, but I think any button will do. So don't give up if your remote doesn't work. Just keep pressing buttons, and it might just gradually build up a head of steam until it turns on. This could take a good few minutes. I've no idea what might have actually happened. Someone posted the same problem elsewhere on the internet and someone suggested it might be something to do with the capacitor.
