My ice maker's dispenser cuts on and off

Check that the motor is connecting to the drive and isn't broken. Also. Check to make sure no frozen chunks are jamming the auger

There is a mechanical flap (trap door) that should open to allow ice that is being pushed by the auger in the bottom of the bin to fall out. Possibly the solenoid that opens the door does not work, or you just have an obstruction (piece of ice) preventing the door from opening far enough to allow the ice to pass through. Your question is worded in a way that I might not be interpreting it correctly. I am guessing that it is making ice but not dispensing,or going into your glass when you push the lever, right?

So when you push the ice dispenser lever do you hear a "click" like you do when you push the water lever? Push them slowly and listen.

If no "click" is heard then it is most likely the bracket that holds the dispenser switches. It is made of plastic and very prone to breaking over time especially if children are using it. Part# is WP2180226 and be aware that this is under live voltage so if you are not mechanical then do not attempt yourself and please call a pro to fix.

If you hear a "click" then can you hear the motor turning inside? If yes then it could be something as simple as a block of ice stuck in the bucket preventing the ice from coming out. The owners manual recommends to dump the ice to avoid this roughly every two weeks but most people never do.

my icemaker has a wire overfill sensor which shuts off the icemaker if there is too much ice in the basket. If this wire gets pushed up it will stop making ice until level lowers OR manually lowered.

When you push the lever to dispense ice, can you hear the motor running? If not, that motor might be dead and not turning the auger, which would be your problem.

If you can hear the motor and auger turning, the chute or the opening in the ice maker might be clogged up with ice. Clean the entrance to the ice maker and the chute in the freezer door and that should fix your problem.

What usually happens on these is the bracket that holds the switches for the ice and water dispenser breaks and that is typically on the ice side.

The best way to check is to open the door and push the water dispenser lever with your hand. As you push it in and gradually get farther you will hear a "click". That is the switch.

Now do the same with the ice side and if you do not hear that click then the bracket is broken. Easy fix but everything back there is live so make sure you are confident ,and safe around power!

The red light may or may not be on this model. The first generation of ice maker optics had the spot for it but whirlpool never hooked it up. The second generation blinked when the door was open but it was for the tech to determine if they could "see the other side". This light has no function for ice dispensing.

Hi: Go easy on my rating as this is just something to try. You say it dosn't have a dispenser. Does it have an Ice maker? If so is it hooked up? If not try raising the lever on the ice maker up to the off position. The water valve may ve trying to open and without water pressure it will make a noise. It would also be related to the switches on the door. I hope this helps, Jeff

most likely you have a frozen water line to the dispenser. it could be inside the back of the refr section that is just too cold or inside the freezer door.
either one can be tested by allowing each to warm up for 15 to 20 minutes and see if you get water thru door.
do you hear a buzz from the water valve coil when you push the dispenser lever? if so then the water line is probably frozen somewhere.

Too much ice, maybe the ice maker didn't connect right, the gears moves but the spring inside the ice maker won't move.

check the mirco-switches behind the panel at the dispenser section. basically, when you depress the lever for water or ice, those levers make contact with a switch, and the switch turns on the ice dispenser motor. if the lever is pushed too hard, the switch can be knocked out of position. I had to re-position my ice switch with some duct tape.
